Can't blame Baun. Blackhawks are a really good, winning organization but he might find himself behind with all the depth.

I'm not a fan of Dreger either, but really, he only said CGY is a frontrunner. McKenzie confirmed that, too. If Dreger had tweeted "Baun will sign with CGY" then yeah, that'd be different.
Anyway, too bad he chose Chicago, but at least Calgary was very much in the running. Any decent college UFAs left? I know O'Connor, but other than that?

Reilly should have all 30 teams on him.

I don't think that the timing of the Carroll announcement was a coincidence either. Treliving was probably going to announce them together if it worked out.

Austin Cznarik might be a guy a few teams look at. He is a dynamic forward but on the small size.
But really no one with a lot of hype attached to them. Except for Reilly but that might take awhile to play out.

Black Hawks are actually going to trade some of the expensive players next season because of the salary cap. Patrick Sharp among others will be gone so I can see them having a spot for Baun.
I never really heard of this guy before and I don't know much about him other than what I read. So Flames not winning the bidding war doesn't really upset me. Would it been nice to get a free asset but I don't want the Flames to just put him in a lineup without earning the spot.

Bartlett said the Blackhawks were an attractive team for Baun because of their length of interest in him, their ability to develop players and their future cap-space situation.
“The Blackhawks have been following Kyle the last 3-4 years and understand his strengths and weaknesses and what type of player he can be,” Bartlett said by phone. “They weren’t just interested because others teams were, which was the case with some teams. The Blackhawks have shown an ability to develop players, even if not everyone can make it to the NHL.
“Also look at the contracts of [Patrick] Kane, [Jonathan] Toews, [Marian] Hossa, [Brandon] Saad, they are going to need affordable players on the roster, especially in bottom-6 roles. Kyle understands that’s his future in the NHL and embraces it.”
