Brodie and his line had already been on the ice and trapped in their own zone for 52 seconds at the start of this clip, when Brodie breaks up the play, hunts the puck down, and does an excellent little maneuver around Holden to steal the puck back, and almost set up a goal. TJ Brodie is a stud.

Here's Gaudreau almost doing it all by himself end-to-end (basically), hitting the post.
In the Dome they showed a few other camera angles of his shot and it was really close to beauty a candidate for goal of the year.
It was kind of funny that this happened almost immediately after they showed a flashback video with Fleury scoring a couple of goals where he did almost the exact same thing. It was like Johnny watched the video and thought, "Hey, I could do that."

He actually did watch the entire flashback video during the TV timeout stood on the ice head up from the bench. Wouldn't even put it past the guy

Yeah, this play I remembered too. I thought no way does he have the gas left to get to that puck, but sure enough, he did, and then even enough to win the battle in the offensive zone too.
Brodie is crazy good. So underrated. Too bad he's mostly left to pick up after Engelland these days.
pretty pleased with my jersey purchase choice on retro night.
number 17 in your hearts lance bouma
Love the Mr. Show gif. Quarters, mostly quarters...

The funny thing about Tanguay is that Roy has him playing a full-out QMJHL junior-style game. He floats and floats and floats before trying to cherry pick his way to a breakaway. Zero defensive awareness or responsibility. So much so that I only saw Iggy try to jump early on a turnover once. Jarome was easily the more responsible one defensively.
Anyway, the Flames bend-don't-break defence was exceedingly elastic last night. So many blown chances to clear, and we still walked out with two points.
And while I think Lance Bouma is going to end up in a wheelchair by 30, the time between now and then is looking to be something special. Much like with Gio, Booms is the kind of warrior that does nothing but inspire teammates.

I was a bit amazed at something Hartley did in the second period. On Colborne's penalty he puts Monahan out there to win the face off and then immediately switches off Backlund after firing the puck down the ice. Ace in the hole for defensive zone face off for Monahan?! Unreal!

Too bad the fan base has such an under appreciation for just how well Engelland has stepped up to play a greater role on this club due to injury and that his good play has allowed Brodie to still be able to make offensive plays.
It's also hillarious that people keep knocking Engelland but the truth is when that pair gets into defensive zone trouble it's often because Brodie made an ill advised aggressive error. When he played with Gio, it's true Gio was more capable of covering that up for him, but it's funny how the fans blame Engelland for him not being able to cover up for Brodie's errors as much as Gio, versus blaming Brodie for the mistake.

I actually agree and have been pleasantly surprised by how well Engelland has played since Gio went down. He has been very good for what he brings. He's never going to score 10 in a season, or crack 20 points likely, but he is providing what's been needed.

I think its beyond the time to be concerned about trends in games right now. Who cares if the Avs looked faster or played better. The Flames are in this fight because they deserve to be. A win is a win this time of the year, no matter how you do it.
Only thing is the head scratch worthy reffing. Offiside? Too many men? Hooks called one way and not the other. I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories, but holy crap.
Can someone calculate how many PPs for and against CGY and LA had in the last 10 games?

I like Engelland but the truth is he really struggled in the first and especially the 3rd last night. Its like he caught a bout of Cale Hulse-itis, everything he touched went to crap.
He has really stepped up in Gio's absence, I didn't think he would play this well with so many more minutes every night, we really have been lucky. Hopefully he isn't burning out.
