afternoon games lol .... if this was a night time game, people would get pissed, but then go to bed an hour or two later, then wake and and move on.
Its (7:30pm?) the game ended a few hours ago and people are still annoyed

It is what it is, pick yourself up and move on, Russell has earned an error or two. But today's game, which was the biggest loss of the season for sure as this was the easiest date on this crucial home stand was lost because the Flames PP was abysmal after that first goal, some bad puck luck on our chances, and a disaster mistake by Russell. Ramo shouldn't even be in the equation.

He was unquestionably the 2nd best goalie on the ice tonight. Ramo isn't the only one to blame, but he lost the goalie battle tonight.

We've got big games against strong teams like the Avs (who beat us last time), Stars (who beat us last time, and they have Klingberg coming on hard right now), Predators(who are looking like the most beatable opponent... except they're one of the best teams in the league), Wild(who beat us last time), Kings(who beat us last time), Blues(who beat us last time), and Jets (who are looking scarier now than they did when we faced them) in our last ten. That's eight games that are a coin flip, three of which are 4 point games.
Our only guarunteed wins left are Edmonton and Arizona and if they mess those up this season could be over long before game 81.
I hate to panic because ten games is a long time and so much could happen - but today's loss and the loss to the Avs last week sting hard as these were non-Playoff teams.
|
No such thing as guarenteed wins other than the ones you've already won. We'll expect the Flames to win as they should have tonight but you can never assume the final result until it all plays out. 10 games left, need somewhere around 10 points. Can only cheer for the team to pick up those wins somewhere along the way.

The way I see it we make the playoffs it's fun. If we miss the boys get to rest and recuperate after an undeniably grueling few months.
We also get the 2% chance at Mcdavid too. I'm not even mad we lost, part of me is fine if they miss because they'll be so exasperated if they do make it it might shorten some careers playing against Anaheim, Nashville or St. Louis. Win or lose it's been a great year and next year we'll be way better.

I'm not sure what the problem is with calling out Russell's mistake. Calgary was leading 2-1 at the time and his mistake made it a tied game. Nobody's saying the guy sucks or Hartley should bench him or anything, but it's completely okay to say he made a mistake, which directly ed to the tying goal which pushed the game to OT.
Anyways, real tough game to lose. Brodie has looked noticeably worse without the captain playing with him and the defense as a group is struggling to get shots through unblocked since Giordano has been out.

People need to calm it down a notch. All through the second and third period Columbus was sending at least one, and most times 2 forecheckers to the goal line in the Flames zone. Why? Because they can! It created lots of opportunities for the Flames and left Bobrovsky exposed often, but he managed to hold them in it. At the other end, relentless forechecking eventually pays off and it unfortunately did so on that goal.
What pisses me off more is that teams bring their AAA game in Calgary and then proceed to drop a deuce in either Winnipeg, Minnesota or Vancouver.

I think it's more that he's playing with Engelland than it is him playing without Giordano. Engelland has been better lately, but he's obviously no Giordano.

We have to enjoy this time. Since the rebuild is advanced we have about 2 years until a 9th place or early exit in playoffs feels like a failure. This is the time we can be filled with hope.
Though, to devil's advocate myself, i understand being angry for a loss. But for the right reasons.

if the Flames miss the playoffs it has more to do with a 8 game losing streak than one game in March where they lost in OT

If the Flames miss the playoffs there's a billion things we could really look to a dozen or more things that add up:
- Not having a scoring winger on the 2nd line
- Backlund missing half the season
- Giordano missing the last quarter of the season
- Byron getting injured and losing all these huge OTs
- Bennett getting sent back down
- Ortio getting sent back down
- Jets and Kings piling up a gazillion Loser Points
- Losing to all these non-Playoff East and Central Division teams
- Mason Raymond
- Deryk Engelland
- Hartley's insistence on Engelland/Smid
- Ondej Pavelec turning into god damn Carey Price his last four games. Like, wat?
But you know what? Most of those are actually positives going into next season.
We'll still have had:
1) The best record against our own division including a winning record against the defending champs.
2) An awesomely fun season with comebacks galore and "out-corsi'd" wins
3) A better draft pick during a rebuild
4) The best rookie of 2015 regardless of how big and tall an eighteen year old phenom is
5) Some incredible, epic shot blocking displays by Lance Bouma, Kris Russell, and the rest of the team
6) Not Reto Berra and Joey MacDonald and Leland Irving in net.
7) The best D-Pairing in the NHL
Let's just get hype for the next ten games... not the easiest schedule... but maybe Pavelec stops this B.S. tear he's on. If it comes down to the last game of the year, **** the Jets.

Who cares what he did? He was making a play to reach the puck and the reffs made a brutal, erroneous call on the play that would surely be admitted if reviewed. Gaudreau was pissed because it was a blatant infraction and an easy call but the reffs blew it.

Can't rely on Gaudreau, Hudler and Monahan to generate all of the offense.

This is basically what we did to Chicago to start this year.
Oh well, regroup and win the last 2 of this homestand and we finish it 3-1-1. I'd take that!

Holy ####. Not even going to read the whole thread after everybody decided to pull a Moon impression on the first page. Just finished watching the replay. As I cant watch afternoon games.
Goat of the game.
PGT on Cp.
I did not at anytime think Columbus was the better team. They were lucky this wasn't a blow out after the first period. Bobs (only two years removed from a Vezina) played absolutely spectacular. The only players out side of him was Johansson and arguably Prout.
