I am glad that the Flames decided to ship him back, but I think they might have been overly concerned about what happened to Sven happening to Bennett.

I sincerely doubt Sven Baertschi's situation crossed their minds when evaluating Sam Bennett's future.

Yeah I agree. This was just the obvious choice. The guy is 18 years old coming off a major surgery and hasn't played meaningful hockey in a very long time. He's also never played a real NHL game. Throwing him in at this point of the season just didn't make sense.

I realize that. But do you not think that it's possible that Bennett arrived yesterday and told the coach he was ready to go? He's been practicing for two weeks.

I'm guessing that the fact that the Flames are still in playoff contention had a lot more to do with sending him down. If they were out of it, he might have gotten a look in Calgary.

Svens first exposure to the NHL was better than one could expect.

The Feaster 50 contracts/injury call up protocol (whatever was the force that put him off that team) may always haunt him.

Had he been able to stay up and continue to learn while already holding confidence of producing, he may be a different player today.

Hopefully Sam will be ready and dominant in training camp next year.

He is not in the lineup today.

Kingston is up 1-0 in the 2nd by the way. And Niagara is losing 3-0 in the 2nd. If those leads hold up, Kinsgton would move to within 1 pt of 6th and 4 pts of 5th, with 2 games in hand on both teams.

Kingston looks poised to make a move in the standings.

Edit: If so, there is less of a chance that their season ends in time for him to join Calgary or Adirondack.

He'll be playing his first game in Kingston on Wednesday against Belleville Bulls according to the newspapers.

I am excited for the 3rd straight year the flames likely have a rookie in the Calder hunt next season.

4 centres chasing the Calder next year with McDavid, Eichel, Bennett, Reinhart

I'd pick Bennett out of that group. Sam was one of the best players for us in the preseason with a busted up shoulder. He will create opportunities out of nothing. Defending against Monahan, Gaudreau, Poirier and Bennett will be tough.

Until proven wrong in the fall, I am going to assume Sam is sent to Kingston in October. He will likely see his 9games and collect his NHL $$, but knowing the kid missed so much hockey, I'm not assuming him to make the Flames in fall.

To add, the NHL logjam at forward isn't likely to go away, as both Baertschi and Shore are Waiver elgible, and while I don't see Glencross back, I do see all other Flames forwards back barring a trade. This also assumes that Treliving doesn't go spending for UFA help up front. Nice problem to have though.

Pretty much saw it coming, but this doesn't make it any easier to swallow.

Surprise us young Sam and give us a show to remember next year.

I think it's extremely unlikely he doesn't make the Flames.

He would have made the team this year with a healthy shoulder.

Don't get your hopes up. People still use "Jerome". It'll probably be the same for Benett.

I believe once the Frontenacs are eliminated, he can opt to play in the AHL and be called up from there.

Yeah, I believe Benet will be a good Flame for a long time, so people should learn to spell his name right.
