He retired due to health issues but damn this is way too young for someone to go. RIP and thanks. He was a journeyman and because of that it seems like most of the teams in the NHL today are offering up a tribute which is a good thing for a guy who battled as hard as he did.
Steve Montador, you were a large part of one of the greatest times of my life. I will forever be grateful to you for that. You were taken way too young, as a Dad it breaks my heart even more to know you were also denied pending fatherhood that you were excited about.
Here are a bunch of pics I have saved from the '04 run.
RIP Steve.

Not that it takes anything away from your post as those pictures are amazing and bring back great memories, but these two are Chris Simon, I believe.
Totally bummed out by the news today. From listening to his interviews on the Fan960 and by all accounts, it sounds like Montador was also a fabulous person off the rink. He did a ton of charity work, and he's also pretty engaging to talk to. RIP Monty.
Steve Montador's goal in game 1 vs the Sharks is my most vivid memory of the '04 run. Probably my favorite. I remember it like it was yesterday. My friends and I decided to watch the game at the Cecil of all places.
Here was this guy, a lunch pail kind of guy like so many on that team, who wanted a chance to be the hero that game and seized his opportunity.
It was the first moment where I really felt like we could win it all.
Certainly, like a bunch of players that year, stories like his made the run that much more special. Both the "Doors" on defense extended their teetering careers by an extra 3-5 years at least thaks to their unsung efforts, especially after Lydman and Gauthier went down. Both the confidence that those guys gained, and the exposure, got Steve and Mike the chance to play longer.
From what I can recall, that SJ goal was on Mothers Day Sunday. To be honest, after that game winning goal, you just got the sense that maybe the Flames were going to make it to the Cup. Vancouver was getting the streak off the back, Detroit, though full value, was 3 of the wins by one goal... and the first game of SJ goes that way too. A great decision to pinch for a guy who never looked for that stuff.
Thanks to all for posting video highlights, but to be honest I didn't need them. Those video highlights have been burned into my mind for years. Yet fun watching them again.
One thing I can say is that Montador maybe gone, but it will be a very long time till he is forgotten.
35 years old father to be dies? Sad day!
If his death is not a natural death........ Well there will be a time for that discussion later. Today is just a sad day!

@mirtle Don't speculate, ever, on something like this. You should be deeply ashamed and let it inform your work for the rest of your career.

That's how I feel.
