Was impressed that we 'won' the faceoff battle tonight against the Sharks. Monahan leading the way with 24 faceoffs taken. I'm not sure how else you can see him but the #1C that this team is relying on.
I would just like to add his over 20 minutes of playing time, the most by a forward with daylight to second. To think that he will only get better Monahan at 6 will be looked back on as a gift from the hockey gods.

If this pace continues into the spring - and considering I get paid more if that happens - this off-season it'll be utterly fascinating to dig into the advanced numbers. IF this continues, digging into the hows and whys are the kinds of things that can move analytics forward.
I am hoping that the chips that were included in the All Star jerseys can be included in all of them. There is still too much ambiguity with the advanced stats that limits their overall effectiveness.
If you can actually measure the exact details of how a player is playing with context, then the metrics will be more important.
The current ones only measure what happened, somewhat on a surface level, rather than how it happened, and the how part is more vital. If you look at the standings and the individual team's Corsi ratings, there isn't a huge amount of similarity between them.

Everyone was solid. Top to bottom. There were no passengers and that's what really impresses me about the team since the Iggy era. Everyone did their part, and they won.
It's like everyone pulling on the same rope together. Team.
Anyone know why Wolf got so little ice time?
I understand he is on the 4th and everyone else was flying, but I felt like he had a few good shifts in the first and barely saw him again.
It was probably a combination of conditioning, 2nd NHL game and coming back from what was described as a " Nasty cut" by a skate blade. It's not out of the ordinary for Hartley to start a rookie with Limited TOI. Jg,Jooris, Bouma, Backlund,Colborne, Stajin,Monahan... I think the point is clear enough. Everybody has Started with little ice time and earned more as the season progresses. Do.you remember just 40 games ago Johnny Hockey played on the 4th line and a lot of people were up in arms about it.

This team just keeps on proving people wrong.
We seem to have put together a near perfect combination of pieces that are greater than the sum of their parts, each player bringing a specific high skill set (scoring or shot blocking etc) whilst contributing at other parts of the game. They are all pulling in the same direction, working hard for each other and that is showing up in the results.
We may not have a team of household names but we have a team to be proud of.

He had one shift where he failed to get to two clearable pucks. Looked slow and out of position.
It was a joke on a beer commercial that was played on TV over and over again during the 2004 playoffs. The commercials were all kinds of silly gags were the beer company invented things to help people with their bosses, families, etc. One of them was a fake steaming cup of coffee you could leave on your desk so the boss thinks you're nearby when you're at home asleep.

Niemi looked pretty terrible. His rebound control was not good and the Raymond goal was pretty soft.
Wolf was good down low but he is very slow. I did like that line and their ability to hem in the Sharks for extended periods but I just don't know if he is a legit NHL player.
The Sharks had no answer for the Flames D pinching at the line and was a huge reason for the win. Also, the ability of Russell and Giordano to make room in the offensive zone is extremely impressive.
Overall, it was a solid game. One of the best of the season for sure.
big shout out to brodie for another great game. this guy is an allstar, no doubt about it any longer. he's the best skater on either team most nights, and the opposition is starting to back away when he gets a hold of the puck. it's like they see the puck go to number 7 and think 'ah crap'
also this outta be required reading for any flames fan nowadays.
