On Corsi? That the Jets put the puck towards the Flames net more than the Flames put it toward theirs. That suggests that the Jets controlled the puck a bit more - particularly at times where they were chasing the game. But one should never look at a single stat to determine how the game went. i.e.: We blocked a lot more pucks (resulting in better Fenwick numbers) and held the Jets to less than 20 shots. That tells us that while they might have had the puck more, they did nothing with it. They spent much of the game being forced into weak shots toward the net that had no hope of generating a scoring chance. Also, most of our goals were off a rush and were put in with the first shot attempt. When the opposing goalie is letting in the first shot, that kind of eliminates the Corsi-building rebound chances.

The Flames were hardly outplayed.

Love the win against Winnipeg. I think the whole team played well and was not even afraid of a much bigger team like the Jets. They outskated the Jets and even outhit them. Smaller players like Gaudreau, Byron, Sven and Hudler was even throwing hits.

I am glad Mason Raymond had a goal last night. He seems to have a jump especially after he scored that goal. I hope he continues to start scoring goals. I don't hate the guy and I am hoping he proved me wrong that he is not one of the top forwards here in Calgary and I think he is overpaid. I hope he starts getting hot and continues until we make the playoffs.
Sven Baertschi I think had a great game. He did not score any goals but he was important part on that Raymond's goal. Actually he made a good pick on Schaefle. He looks more poised and was defensively aware. Colborne is another guy who had a good game especially after Hartley moved him to centre the 4th line. What a sweet pass on Bollig's 1st goal as a Flame.

Happy with the win and we are now ahead of the Canucks in standing for now. Canucks have 3 games on hand though.

Lots of what you say here could be applied to the entire season to-date.

Yes and no. I know where you are coming from, but we're having to come from behind far too often still. Controlling the puck more from the start results in fewer 0-1, 0-2 deficits to overcome.

combustiblefuel asked if I could capture the Diaz goal to showcase how awesome Bouma's play was on it. He appears to hurdle the shot at the perfect moment!

I would agree that if the stats say the Flames "lost" the advanced stats battle last night they don't reflect the game I saw.

Generally, however I don't like arguments that tend to excuse the shot totals or attempts by saying they don't reflect the visual game, like the shots were all from the perimeter, etc. simply because I heard the same excuse from the Leaf fans and Oiler fans. I think fans tend to forget the good chances if lots of the shots were outside, but they still existed. Even last night Hiller had to make a couple really good saves.

Good news for baertschi is that Hartley felt he was playing strong enough to give him 13 mins of ice instead of his usual 8.
