No, it's not. It's a comment and nothing more.

So how about the person who did stand up and say it was me and I shouldn't have? Take ownership.

Nenshi, Druh or anyone else can get in serious trouble naming names without actual proof. And getting "blotto" at a party that happened before Christmas (I think that's when it was) would be incredibly hard to prove at this point.

Council is best not to say any names, and just move on with business.

Waiting for apologies because feelings were hurt - is this Grade 2 all over again? What?

It is not slander when no one is named, (and if the accusations are true).

The current kerfuffle is just another example how Nenshi and Farrell derail Council's prime job to govern this City by public posturing and using irresponsible comments. This idiocy is now going to drag on for weeks until it gets forgotten without any action taken but with angry Councilors taking stubs at each other at every possible opportunity instead of cooperating and finding consensus on important City-wide issues they actually can agree on. Not productive and, frankly, not smart; unless this was some kind of a sinister plan all along, which I doubt; probably, just a careless stupidity. If Nenshi was truly wise, he'd apologize quickly and let the whole thing go away. But no; as Stevenson pointed out in the Herald this morning, "He feels he's never wrong." This is a very strong indication of displeasure coming from one of the more powerful and rather quiet Council members. We all pay for this dysfunction over there.

By some witness accounts, Klein and his entourage were drunk almost every night; but the amount of stuff he was able to achieve during his tenure as Mayor (and later, as Premier) is incredible. And he had his Council behind him all the way; they loved him. Granted, some of the political decisions he made were questionable and not happily accepted by the general public; but the point is, he was able to lead the way and get things done to be judged by his deeds, rather than his sayings.

Did council really all "love" Klein back in his day? Honest question. Stuff like that always seems like fuzzy nostalgic thinking to me.

Oh, they did. Pretty much all of them. He was hard not to like from what I've heard. Sharp, quick, funny, witty, no BS - and all of that with a huge heart.

I think that's a bit anecdotal. Albertans think Ralph was larger than life, I think there tends to be some truth skewing. No one is that likable.

Figures like that tend to attract and grow legends and stories on them, true. But even his opponents liked him! I remember Sheila Copps whining how everyone loved him and nobody loved her.

Pretty much feel the same. Now I say this with a major caveat, I wasn't a Calgarian at the time and I was only 7 when Klein left the Mayor's seat here but if we had twitter and all the social media at our hands back then that we had now, you'd probably see all that juicy/sad sniping from council.

I don't think Sue Higgins would have given up her seat on Council to run against him if she had unconditional love for him.

I was. Some of the Aldermen from that era served long after Ralph moved on (Dale Hodges, Bob Hawkesworth, Barb Scott, Sue Higgins, Al Duerr), some have become very active in private industries (Tim Bardsley, Ray Clark). All from very opposite political views and backgrounds. Yet, a unanimous expression of love for their time during Ralph's tenure in any public or private speaking arrangements. Even Dale Hodges, a fiscal hawk and a seriously boring curmudgeon remembered Ralph with respect.

For my own warped sense of humour, how old were you in '89?
