Agreed. Getting beer and water was a nightmare in that crowd. Commonwealth is a nice stadium, but the concourses are too narrow and the walking vendors too infrequent to service the crowd at a premium event.

They have vendors in the seats at Eskimos games, it's odd that they weren't out for this event.

Wow really? Wonder why they didn't have any vendors in the stands.

Ya, the concessions were absolutely brutal. Managed to grab a bottle of water before the game and it "only" took me about 20 minutes. Can't even imagine what the lineup was like at halftime

From a supporters point of view, it's utterly frustrating to be outchanted by the visiting team's supporters. The Voyageurs couldn't even get supporters in section FF to chant along, even when trying hockey chants. At the end of the game, security actually asked us to sit down due to complaints from other fans. I guess supporters are just considered drunk jagoffs to most (that's a quote from this board specifically). /rant

As for the game itself, Canada was lucky to come away with the victory. The play in the final third was largely uninspiring and combining that with China parking the bus, not much to talk about event wise. The penalty call was so-so, not sure if it really was a penalty. But hey, after being on the wrong end of calls so many times I'll take it!

I left after the Canada game because my head was throbbing from the bus ride, the march, and the sun / lack of water. But it was a great experience.

Also, not a bad view eh?

This is a bit of the concern of expanding to 24 teams. Thailand gets in as the 5th place finishers in the Asian Cup, out of 8 teams, and Norway is literally walking all over them with a huge disaprity in size and strength. Selfie time after making it 3-0.

Thailand is only there cause North Korea are suspended.

Thailand and Vietnam had a playoff to get in. It will be a good learning experience.

True. I was just looking at it in the sense that the playoff only gets played to begin with because 5 Asian teams are there instead of 3.

Yes but you have to treat Asia as a really strong confederation in Womens football. They have always had 3.5 or 4 spots in a 16 team tournament

Japan are the champs. China have been a finalist. Increasing to 24 teams and giving them one more spot makes sense.

Our crowds can be so prudish. I guess it will make it that much sweeter when we become an intimidating environment for visiting teams... one day.

As Ivory Coast sits in for the learning experience vs Germany, a casual fan in Ottawa now has zero reason to have any further interest in attending another game after watching two abysmal blowouts.

Didn't think the 1st game was that bad.

I'm just really happy that Thailand and Cote D'Ivoire even have women's soccer teams that are here!

#1 ranked team vs #67... in a tournament with 24 teams. Last year's men's World Cup's highest team was #59, with 32 teams in draw.

Seems legit.

It's being compared to table football. The Ivorian midfield doesn't go forward or backward.

Just the way the slots are allotted to the various federations, the end result is that Ivory Coast is ranked #67 in the FIFA rankings but is here playing in a tournament that's supposed to be the top 24 teams in the world. This is not unusual and happens in the men's game too, but the disparity between #1 and #67 is giant in the women's game.
