Who the hell stalking about mental instability? there's no University of Minnesota ######bag aptitude test, but if I find myself in a room full of car salesmen doing blow there's a good chance a few of them are ######bags.

What you are talking about are crimes with victims. BDSM or using recreational drugs are among consenting adults, victimless. Now they say there is nothing hidden under the sun, but judging people over what is a preference is not good either.

I would suspect BDSM is more about meaning to the people that partake than it is about getting off to pain. It's not about "oh yeah that really gets the spot" but more about the lengths the two people (or more) are willing to go through to have a sexual experience with each-other. That and it's a very unique thing to partake in and requires a fair bit of trust, furthering the meaning behind it.
Edit: although there's definitely people that are in it for the other reasons.

You and I both judge people all time, everybody does, if the salesman's telling the truth, if the new guy at work's a good guy you want to go for a drink with or if he gets your back up and you brush him off.
There are perfectly legal, ordinary people in the world who are ######bags, someone who's a ######bag for me may be different for you, but we all have our standards, I meet a new guy at work and he wants to come out and play soccer or catch a band but he also invites me into the washroom to do a line or wants me to watch some porn or the like I'm going to judge him not my kind of guy, essentially, for me, a ######bag, I'm probably not going to join him on a trip to Vegas or fishing or the like. I may not buy a car or a house from him, you might think he's a hell of a guy, we all have our own tastes and standards.

Like I said, we all got our own standards we judge people by, I've spent a lifetime working with, amongst others, victims of abuse, I loathe men that abuse women, getting a hard on as you hurt someone is way to close to that mark for my taste, and practically how can you have empathy and also like hurting people? Doesn't add up for me.
But as I said before, it's a case by case thing, two of my best friends are recovering addicts, doesn't bother me at all. Ultimately it's not about the act, it's about what it tells you about the person.

$50 Million partially funded by tax payers... this whole thing stinks. If all was consensual, this is a stain on CBC leadership for rushing to censor/save face in our modern society that most people who are his core audience wouldn't care about. He could probably sue for defamation, unfair dismissal, etc. but it will come down to whatever clauses are in his contract, etc.

The CBC didn't mention a thing, it's his own statement that talked about it so there's no way they are up for defamation.
Assuming he came on to a subordinate at the cooperation they can fire him with no problem. It happens all the time but it is still grounds for dismissal.

The CBC has yet to release its statement. Jian has gotten ahead on the PR curve to lessen the impact of that statement in the public sphere.
As others have said though, we are only getting his side of the story so far. I'm sure others will be paying attention if other women come forward and do not corroborate his story.
That said, I don't know his show, I didn't know who he was until today, and really don't have any input or attachment to this news item aside from usual knee-jerk reaction to the choices of a publically funded media corporation.
Also, I feel that judging somebody based on what their do consensually and in private with other people is nobody's business and it's a shame that it can affect their livelihoods, families, their reputation, their public perception, and cause people on internet forums to start calling them scumbags and drug addicts based on fear and ignorance.

If the new guy at work asked me to watch porn with him I'd say that's weird and I feel everyone would.
I have many friends who undoubtedly both watch porn and use drugs recreationally .. I've been offered drugs before, but never asked to watch porn with someone.
Is that really a thing?

Happened to me once, guy I worked with had some weird stuff on his phone, he thought it was funny, a guy I play soccer with likes to show naked pictures of his girlfriends, which is also weird.

Jian Ghomeshi no longer with CBC
What always amazes me about things like this is how hungry, even in the absence of facts, some people are for blood.
It's a very disturbing part of our culture, more so than anyone's sexual preferences with consensual partners. The need to drag public figures down. Guilty until proven innocent, and perhaps guilty still after. I'm not a religious man but any means, but the phrase "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" is incredibly apt in such a situation. When hardly any of the facts are known, it's much more important to be thoughtful than it is to be first out of the gate with an opinion.
I have found that those quickest to judge and condemn seem to carry the most skeletons in their closet.

This issue is not about BDSM.
It's about someone who has allegedly committed sexual violence against 3-4 women.
BDSM is not sexual violence as it is consensual. I'm not into BDSM but I know people that are, and that's NOT the issue.
Anyone who says BDSM is about rape or is a slippery slope to rape is simply ignorant.

Also, the Jimmy Saville thing is probably guiding alot of CBC decision making. The BBC sheltered and turned a blind eye to Saville's crimes for years. When presented with the evidence, CBC leadership may have thought best to cut ties immediately.
Again, this is basically he said/she said at this point and likely will continue to be that. In either case, 3-4 women now have come forward. I just don't think that the CBC could ignore the allegations and from a risk-mitigation perspective took the least damaging course of action.

I know very little about BDSM, but I always thought that it's not about getting off to giving pain to someone, it's about getting off on seeing another person getting off to being in pain. Also, if you've ever bit, spanked, or pulled your partner's hair during sex, what exactly is it you think you're getting off to, and how is that any different? I have a number of female friends who've told me me they enjoy when their partners violently choke or strike them during sex. Others like being spit on and called awful things. It's not my cup of tea, and not something I really want to engage in, but these people aren't any more mentally unstable or scummy than anyone else I've met. In fact they're all pretty awesome people. Some pretty ####ty and sex-negative views being espoused in this thread.

With each post your arguments look increasingly ridiculous, callous and absent of basic thought processes.
