He didn't struggle though. He barely played due to the penalties, and when he did he was probably the only offensively dynamic player other than Byron that game.
See, had he deserved a benching I would totally get it. But he didn't. That's the burner.
Christ Monahan has deserved a benching wayyyyy more than Gaudreau. Way more ice time, way lazier and often dumb play, at least that game. There is no good message being sent.

Ya definitely. Hartley has never worked well with skilled players.
