He was considered a super talent has been hailed as the beacon of hope - and inspired an entire city. That's two years ago. At the time, Sven Baertschi was appointed in the NHL with 19 years of junior team Portland - and scored in five games for Calgary scored three goals. The newspaper headlines read: "SVENsationell!"

But then traveled the striker ahead of schedule back to Calgary and coached nine weeks under Fitness Coach Ryan van Asten. Baertschi has gained four pounds of muscle mass and was at the fitness tests in the Top 10 of all 60 players.
For ex-NLA professional and Agent Andy Rufener is clear: "Sven would have earned a spot. And without discussion. I have seen virtually all warm-up matches. For me it's obvious: Hartley has just one problem with Sven. "
This also looks Papa Baertschi way. "Hartley is on physically strong players. Sven is technically strong. Last year he was put in a straitjacket, was not allowed to play what he could, and eventually did not know what to do. "
The former Langenthal- and Langnau professional twice immediately after: "I have visited in the last year Sven. Psychological distress was great.
Hartley has made him ready, as if he were solely responsible for the defeats. The two will probably never be friends. "
Several clubs were interested in a trade. But the Flames wanted Baertschi did not let them go. Not yet?

So glad Sven set the record straight. Still very hopeful that he makes it.

Given the 6 game road trip, I am guessing that we will have some injuries or terrible play that will result in some changes. It is going to be a tough year, but we will see these kids play, eventually.

It’s easy to assume Baertschi’s father is repeating family conversations, but the 2011 first-round draft pick said that’s not the case.

“I would assume the same thing if I saw an article like that. My dad, he knows hockey but to be honest with you, we don’t talk much about hockey,” Baertschi said. “I’m not a guy who goes home when something goes wrong at the rink and calls his dad crying and complaining and stuff. That’s not what I do. I never go to my mom and cry. That’s not what I do. I’m here in North America pretty much by myself and gotta handle it. I can’t cry to my parents.”

As disappointed as Baertschi was when he was demoted, he said a couple of days have given him the time to get his head in the right space to work his way back to the NHL.

“The last few years have been a learning process, not just as a hockey player but as a person, too,” Baertschi said. “I’m dealing with this so much better than I would have dealt with it two years ago or even last year. And I’m kinda proud of myself. Those tough times have made me where I am right now.

“The main thing for me is I want to win hockey games. I want to be the player I can be,” he continued. “The focus is on myself right now, play the best I can. For that, it’s best to not hang (my head) about what’s happened. I’m excited about this team. There’s a lot of great guys on this team and there’s a lot possible.

It has to be embarrassing for him. Especially since he is not sulking or whining about the demotion, he just wants to play good hockey and get a call up.

It also has to be embarrassing for some posters on CP and the way they reacted to this crap as if it had to be true.

I'm glad Sven straightened this all out so quickly, now hopefully he will play some great hockey and be deserving of a call up.

His dad said what he said. It's not as though Blick made up the quotes. What we know now is his dad wasn't speaking for his son.

Damn, love Sven coming out and setting the record straight. Really loving his attitude. Nothing wrong with being frustrated and disappointed with not being where you want to be. It is just about channeling that frustration into a positive.

Sven is doing everything right and he will be up with the big club sooner rather than later. And when he is, he will be all the better a player and person for this time.
