Teams that committ to building through the draft always tank in I one way or another. The flames are one of those teams right now. If they wanted to ice a better roster they could have traded kids and picks for veterans and then overpayed for UFA's.

The flames are committed to build from within and have a few building blocks in place already. I think they have 1-2 years of sell off and high picks left before they really try and add players around their best youngsters to make a run. If they land McDavid/Eichel to a group consisting of Johnny, Monahan, Bennett, Sven, Porier I think they make a push in 15/16

Can you name a team that isn't committed to building through the draft?

Signing free agents and building through the draft are not mutually exclusive

Burkes's Leafs come to mind immediately.

The Sabres team that traded for Regehr and aigned Leino and Erhoff thought they were contenders after a spending spree.

The previous Flames and current Canucks would go to market to fill major holes.

Yes not all picks and prospects get traded but when a team commits to building through the draft usually come out and make that claim when they lose key veterans and seek more picks as opposed to veteran players that help sooner

I always love the suspense of wading into an old thread that has been bumped. Occasionally there is something of value that is on topic and an addition. Usually however it is some sort of nonsensical random thought or just a completely odd statement. Sometimes i prefer the latter. Thanks for a laugh.
