I doubt he would go in the first round. Maybe late in the 2nd round at the earliest but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the middle of the draft. He's small and one good training camp with the Oilers of all teams isn't nearly enough of an indicator of how he will fare as an NHL player. Teams will probably keep a close eye on him though.

It depends more on what he does this year in Moncton than what he did this training camp

Edmonton Oilers @EdmontonOilers
Vladimir Tkachev has been released from his #Oilers ATO and will be returning to the Moncton Wildcats of the @QMJHL.
Oilers have decided to stop giving the other NHL teams a free show.

Would be hilarious if the cheque for Tkachev's signing bonus had already cleared and he refused to give it back.

tough break for the kid, but at the same time, he can take the positives from this: he's made some waves and a lot of people have noticed him. That's huge for an undrafted player ... if Hyka and Walker are any indication, he'll be drafted if he doesn't crap the bed this season. So go back to junior, have a good season and hope one of the other 29 teams drafts you.

It worked out really well for him, now he isnt stuck with the Oilers.

Toronto Maple Leafs winger David Clarkson’s contract is widely regarded as the worst in the entire National Hockey League, and it’s high in the running for the worst in NHL history. The seven-year, $36.75 million pact he signed last summer looked bad before the ink was dry. However, after Clarkson posted 11 points in 60 games during 2013-14, the deal has become an enormous millstone around the Maple Leafs’ neck. How does MacTavish factor into this? He reportedly offered Clarkson more money to join the Oilers, but the deal was rejected. Read that last sentence again, and then remember that MacTavish is the current Oilers GM.

And a great take on the Nikitin signing:
Quote:
Facing elimination during a first-round playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in April, the Columbus Blue Jackets decided they would rather have defenceman Nikita Nikitin watch from the press box than play the game. Two months later, Columbus traded him to Edmonton for a fifth-round pick, and MacTavish negotiated a two-year, $9 million deal. Not only is Nikitin grossly overpaid, but during his career he’s played 30 fewer NHL games than Jeff Petry. MacTavish gave up a fifth-round pick to overpay a mediocre defenceman nobody wanted. What could a 2014 fifth-round pick have gotten you? Vladimir Tkachev.

And the danger of thinking you can outsmart everyone like Feaster et al did is that the people with the hammer are more likely to drop it on their head when given the chance.

This was my feeling, that the level of bad optics over the ambiguity of the initial wording would lead to the whole thing being voided. Only a dangerous assumption for Feaster of course, as he was the responsible party.

He is more fired up to play for a real NHL team next year. And a year in the AHL won't hurt him.
So can an AHL just sign him of their own accord? He has no NHL club affiliation.

Not actually sure on that one. But the entire reason Tkachev came to Moncton was to raise his profile with NHL teams. Mission accomplished, with help from the Oilers.
Edmonton basically signed him for league minimum and I suspect they would have returned him to junior for this season anyway. So he's not likely to lose much for going back to the Q. But if he goes to Moncton and dominates, he could profit from Edmonton's mistake.

Don't believe he can sign with an AHL team because he still has a valid contract with a CHL team and is only 18 years old

Whenever CP members disagree and bicker amongst themselves, the Oilers being no good always manages to bring out the best of us.

so if Vladdy makes a push and somehow becomes a top 10 prospect, will he fail to do pull ups too just so the oilers pass on him?

Could see a team using a 2nd rounder on him if he produces like he did last year over a full season.
We used a 2nd rounder on Hunter Smith who went un-drafted in his first go round.

The real question remaining is: Who gets promoted in Edmonton?

The only team I see doing that is Edmonton. And I hope they do.
