Ugh, I hated those things when working in an office. Someone a few offices down had the space heaters cranked up (to battle the -20 weather), and they also happened to have the thermostat in their office. So the space heater gets the room up to 23-24 and the genius HVAC system thinks "holy fata, got to turn on the AC to cool this place down". No idea why the HVAC system even has AC enabled in the dead of winter. But the effect is every office gets blasted with AC, and the guy with the space heaters plugs in another to battle the "cool draft". And of course the thermostat is locked down with a password.

The company that I worked for had one of the crappiest offices with probably the worst HVAC system. They apparently complained multiple times a year and the building management came in dozens of times during my tenure to try to get something figured out. Only about half of our floor had sufficient heating or cooling and the thermostat on the floor apparently did nothing because the temperature was controlled elsewhere in the building. I had a decent office that had good heat in the winter and sufficient air flow in the summer to keep me cool.
At one point in the summer, a guy in the warm part of the office had a thermometer and during a heat wave it was 29 in his office for a week. He had two fans in his office and it was unbearable.
I'm glad I'm not in that building any more.

He should have just geared down. Sitting at your desk in a wife beater and Y-fronts gets attention.

Gotta agree with Huntingwhale on his view on open cubicles. What a stupid idea. Brutal from HR. And the real kicker for my company? HR still has offices, because the stuff they do is "confidential". So get rid of all the offices except for their own. You suck HR!

Our office hits 30 a couple times a year. I go home at around 28. I'm totally useless in the heat. Give me a cold office, any day. I'll put on a sweater and have a hot tea if it is cold. Ain't nothin' you can do when it hits 25.

It has been in the -30s for the last few days up where I work and I have had my window open because two girls in the office control the thermostat that heats my office.

Of course there is. Strip down to your underwear, crack an ice cold beer and stew in your own filth.

Watch it. I can drop my office into 4x4 and drive it through your office's front window.
Umm, can I write off paint scratches?

That's the best kind of office.
Control of your own heat, if the sun is in your eyes just turn around, if HR is being annoying who cares they're hours away.

He probably wore a suit, golfed with senior staff, and met with clients on a regular basis. Again, a fully grown adult male was flushing newspapers down the toilet. The President of the company had to send out emails about it multiple times. This went on for years.

Related story.
~700 person camp up in Ft.Mac, the septic system is not designed to take anything but the easy broken down toilet paper. There is a sign above each toilet stating this.
New occupant of a room complains his toilet is messed up so maintenance checks it and can't find anything wrong with the toilet itself. Eventually they pull the pipes apart and find a sandwich, still wrapped in cellophane, clogging the pipe where it connects to the collector. That one went out in the daily bulletin.
Second time they found a clog, it turned out to be a mass of condoms.

The cold office ladies response to that usually is "I can't work because my hands are frozen because it's so cold"
"GLOVES"
Which results in stink eye.

Reading through this thread has really made me appreciate my ability to work from home and my very very infrequent actual office visits.

Green text? 13 degrees?
Even with an office temperature set to 21, very few people are stripping down from pants and dress shirts to shorts and t-shirts. If there is a jacket component to the suit, maybe, but that seems optional most of the time.
And gloves? How does that even work with trying to type or do anything productive.

My boss sits near me and eats pretty much 90% salad which is fine except he chews and chomps with his mouth open. Very irritating and talked about around the office but what can you do really? Not gonna mention it to the boss...
