Not really, I haven't really seen any legitimate anger over people losing the pics either though.

Have you?

Fair enough. Anger is probably the wrong word to be used for both sides. I just jumped on it there as you used it in your example.

understand the decision, but disappointed nonetheless.

will mods be handing out warnings when people use the common phrase "the sedin sisters" going forward, that is another negative and harming language towards women we see on CP. if we are all holding this forum to higher standards, should this also be removed?

Agree the impossible yet sports celebrated 110%. I never used it, considered it very offensive. Think I spoke out about it once, can't remember.

And it's those sorts of comments posters and mods should think more about, rather than the YLYL thread. Not to defend the thread either, it had no real purpose so I don't care that it's gone, but it was a thread with sexual images in it, so of course there would be sexual comments. And yeah, some comments there made me embarrassed to have a penis, but whenever sex comes up, there will be bad comments from all genders and sexual orientations. It's sex, it's supposed to be a little bit lewd.

The 'Sedin Sister's' comment to me is much more harmful than that. It's directly indicating a inequality in gender. IE, you suck at sports so you must be a girl.

That and the constant rating of women in a sexual context are probably two of the more sexist and hurtful practices on this board. Which is why YLYL came under fire. Though, as I mentioned, ratings there made a lot more sense than seeing them pop up in an Alison Redford thread, or whichever thread celebrating a woman in sports.

I probably should have spoken out about it more, but it always really irked me when we'd be talking about the news and some great accomplishment from a woman in politics, or sports, or whatever, and the reasons for why or why not a certain member thought she was 'doable' came up. Who the frig cares? One, that isn't the only measure of a woman's worth, two, I don't really care who you find doable and why, three, you don't have a chance anyway, and four, we aren't talking about sex. I know I said something about it once or twice, but generally it just gets lost.

Back on track, the Sedin Sisters one has always been horrible. Let's put that in the language blocker immediately.

Honestly, why not? And I say that as someone who's used that term heavily in the past. Can't think of a way to insult the Sedins that isn't pejorative to another gender, sexual orientation, etc., then don't post it.

I'm for handing out warnings for the term "sedin sisters" and I am glad that the YLYL thread was closed/deleted.

As society progress, it needs to look at what it's doing from time to time and see if what they are doing is a good thing or not. A few years ago, there wasn't a huge outcry over things like the YLYL or even sexist jokes about telling women to go make a sandwich and such similar types of statements. As a society, we are getting better at being inclusive, whether that's about equal rights for LGBT or by not demeaning half the population just because they are not men. The YLYL thread was one of those things, regardless of the possibly innocent intentions of those that posted in there.

Also as has been said, if you're wanting to look at pictures of naked or semi naked women, there are a ton of other sites that cater to that. This is primarily a hockey site, with some other things as well, not a semi/NSFW site.

Seeing that Paulina Gretzky thread bumped is another ugly reminder of how brutal some of the posters around here can be in regards to sexism, etc.

Oh no, I just found a picture on the internet that I thought was beautiful and I wanted to share this beautiful picture with everyone. I am just appreciating the beauty of the male form...

If people want me to take it down or if the mods want me to change it, I will. However, all the guys on the forum that have chicks in lingerie and ass shots and boob shots as their avatars will have to take theirs down too. That is something the mods can decide.

Harmless. Hope this place doesn't become the middle east where you need a burka on your avatar.

I'm sure everyone was waiting with baited breath for me to chime in, but it seems my sentiment has been hashed out pretty succinctly so far.

Great job mods, <3 u doods.

To all those feeling on the wrong side of a decision:

Your "right" to reduce women to objects no longer extends to this site. It's not that hard to figure out.

And yet, that's the perfect example.

I don't find EG's avatar to be offensive. Or Peanut's, for that matter. But if someone did find it offensive...should it be removed? After all, someone has found it offensive. EG's also got a point about the 'girlie pic' avatars...they are the same sort that were in the YLYL thread, and thus, clearly make some of our female members uncomfortable/offended...so should they go? If not? Why not? If we're taking steps to reduce sexism (which is a good thing) why should/are avatars exempt?

I think some of the avatars may cross the line but the problem is thats its similar to obscenity where you know it when you see it but cant easily define it. Slippery slope?

I agree with this decision. In fact, the off topic area has numerous threads that I wouldn't mind if they were locked and/or deleted (forum.drunkpuck.com for one). Fortunately, most end up just falling off the first page and forgotten.

In general, the moderators are pretty easy going for what is allowed.

If people start getting warnings for saying 'Sedin Sisters' then this place has officially lost it's collective mind.

I'm not really that upset at the YLYL thread getting closed (though I obviously didn't agree with it) but 'Sedin Sisters' becoming an offensive phrase is exactly the slippery slope people were talking about.

Ok well now if you wanted to create a thread to share your avatar with fellow CPers i wouldnt have a problem with that as i could choose whether or not i wanted to participate in it but here or in any other thread you are forcing me to see it.

The mods must absolutely continue this crusade of equality that they started by deleting the YLYL thread. They now need to force others with inappropriate avatars to change them immediately. Why wait? My suggestion to you instead of being a hypocrite by now applying our argument against us (which obviously didnt work) would be to remove it voluntarily.

I don't buy it. To me it's a pejorative term as mean as some of the racial and homophobic slurs out there, just that it's sexist.

Why don't we call them the 'Sedin Buffalo Fans' then? I suspect you'll tell me because that doesn't make sense and it's not funny.

So then, you'll have to explain to me why 'Sedin Sisters' does make sense and is funny. Is there something funny about women playing sports?

Explain how it isn't offensive then.
