Im not sure if the Flames have ever had a player with this level of talent before. Certainly has been a while anyway.
He could be that one game breaker every team so badly needs. As good as the Hawks are as a team, look at what Kane has done for them. How many times does he make that play or bury that puck to win huge games. I think Gaudreau has that kind of game changing potential.
Fleury was easily more talented as IMO he's the most talented Flame ever. Kent Nilsson was maybe more talented as he was a magician when he felt like playing and the problem is that there were times where he didn't.

Gretzky called Kent Nilsson the most talented hockey player he's ever seen. Full stop. The guy put up 131 pts playing half his games with the intensity of a hung-over Rene Bourque.

Ha yeah. I remember the famous crossbar clip of Nilsson
“I’ve been working all my college career on getting shots through a screen using the defenceman,” Gaudreau said of his effort. “I’ve been getting better and better at it over time.”
Gaudreau said that New York Rangers forward and at the time Boston College teammate Chris Kreider tried to teach him how to create offence using shots like that in his first few weeks as a college freshman in 2011.
“I had no idea what I was doing,” laughed Gaudreau. “Throughout that season Kreider helped me out and I just tried to get better and better. It’s a big part of my game now.”

Oh yes there's no denying that if Nilsson played hard every night he would have been easily the most talented (it's why I brought up his name as possibly more talented that Fleury as some younger fans may not realize the skill he possessed) Flame but Fleury was a better combination of talent and drive. I just believe that being lazy kind of takes away from the overall package. Every night you were going to see something from Fleury while Nilsson looked some nights like he wanted to be anywhere else but the ice.

Late to that discussion, but Scott Stevens was widely considered as a headhunting POS out to injure players back in the day, you didn't even have to follow the NHL to know what he was about.
And yeah, the Kariya hit was way late. It's not like it even matters much, Stevens would have did the exact same thing no matter how late he was, and I'm sure he's still proud of what he did to this day.
