I picked "yes", but I am pretty indifferent to the hiring. I have some questions, but I think he deserves a chance to answer them before I judge the hiring.

I know nothing about him, but I'm happy they picked him if only because I didn't want to see someone else Burke has worked with in the past (*cough*Nonis*cough*).

Exciting times for the Flames.
That is my only concern as well. I just hope he doesn't go Sather on us. That being said I think as a whole the upper brass is rounding out nicely. I think there is more than enough to make sure this doesn't go sideways.

Not a bad hire...I was just hoping for Futa or Benning. Also a little concerned that they allegedly only interviewed one candidate?

It's not like an interview at Taco Bell.

Interviews at that level are more about "fit" than getting an account of the person's history and credentials (that stuff is already known). If the guy is a great fit, no point is drawing out the process.

Just look how many people Buffalo annoyed by dragging out the process.

I don't think it is a concern if he was the number one target from the start. Burke obviously had a preferred candidate in Treliving. Treliving must have checked all the boxes and said all the right things so Burke didn't have to go to plan B.

So will there be Boston Pizza restaurants/take-outs opening at the Dome?

Edit: a bit late on this joke...

Jim Treliving ‏@JTreliving 58m Lots of kind messages about Brad this morning. Wonder if he'd put me in the line-up? Proud day!

Yeah, you're right. It's not a Taco Bell interview (or at least shouldn't be), where you show up and they hire you. This is an important position and unless there's a candidate that is miles ahead of everyone else and blows away the interview, I'd personally think you'd at least want to bring in another 2-3 top candidates to hear what their vision for the team is, then evaluate them all based off vision/fit.

Burke has been around a long time and I'm sure he knows most of the management teams out there pretty well, I'm gonna trust his judgment on this one

Glad to hear this news is being perceived as a good move league-wide. As most others here, I hadn't even heard his name until earlier today, but I have faith that Burke got his guy. A big welcome to Brad and his family in joining a team that is hopefully on the upswing!

I think this move was one of the final pieces of getting the rebuild underway on a management level. Last season saw the final days of several core players and new ones brought in this year. We finally have a breathe of fresh air in the GM role and someone who is young and had success at every level. I'm really excited to see the direction he leads us.

I don't think it is a problem if he is the only one interviewed. If they knew he is the guy and are worried about him getting snapped up elsewhere, then pull the trigger - rather than let him slip and get the second best guy (or George McPhee).

Agreed. With the hiring, we get a glimpse into Burke's process'. Assumptions that some had going into the season:

-Burke is a control freak
-Burke overvalues truculence
-Burke is far more traditionalist than progressive
-Burke will surround himself with his buddies, turning Calgary into Toronto West

I think that these have been debunked throughout the year, and this decision solidifies that. His actions this year seem to be pretty damn measured, and it leads me to believe that his process' are ridiculously methodical. Once the management team is assembled, it would not surprise me that we learn that he is anything but a control freak, and he wants strong voices in a room, and that he wants push and pull, and collaboration between people who know what the hell they are talking about.

Would love to hear Kisio be named AGM, but I imagine Treliving will have input there. Great news regardless though!

At 44, Treliving must be one of the youngest GMs in the league (he is only a year older than Conroy, although he has been in management a lot longer).
