I was never cheering for Kerr to lose his job, but I am happy we will be getting a new play by play personality.

Really unfortunate to hear this....I was sure that with the new deal kicking in that Rogers was going to focus on production values/quality being increased which in turn would/will lead to less whining about Kerr and company.
Man the broadcast business is a bitch sometimes....but Kerr will be fine and likely gets gobbled up in a hurry by a wise program director somewhere.....hopefully thats Kirsch, but wont hold my breath on that one either.

We're going to end up with the short end of the stick, a well past his prime Bob Cole and either Greg Millen or (shudder) Glenn Healy.

I liked both Kerr and Simmer, Kerr did have some work to do but his enthusiasm for calling play by play was obvious. Simmer I enjoyed as well. Always musical chairs with Sportsnet.

Sadly being a good guy or working hard doesn't make one good at every job. Wish them the best.
Being that it's Rogers I have little confidence they'll hire someone decent.

Both quality individuals and if true, I wish them both the very best.
While i was not a huge fan of Kerr's PBP, he grew on me and won me over with his enthusiasm, preparation and knowledge.
I will never forget Rob through the 03/04 run, listening to him after every game, how he'd often stay online until the last caller had their say, often hours after he was scheduled. How he went to bat for us fans imploring the fan960 to provide an internet stream. For me, Rob Kerr will always be synonymous with the 03-04 run.
Thank you Roger, for the the hard work, dedication and passion you displayed for the team, the city and us fans. You will be missed.
Chris

I thought Kerr was a great PBP guy, getting better and better each season. Of course he had his quirks, as did Loubo, but that's what sets them apart.
What drove me nuts was the audio sync issues and Simmer constantly calling players the wrong names on air. It was like he was sleeping, then when out was his turn to speak someone would wake him up, he'd glance at a highlight package then just spew whatever came to mind.
I will miss Kerr but glad Simmer is gone, though not glad at how they left.

Kerr always seemed to me that he would be better suited in the role of the colour guy, he was so knowledgeable that he could add a lot in that role, but he wasnt able to bring that strength to the forefront as the play-by-play guy.
Sadly to say, I really didnt like him as a PBP. Thats not an easy job and I know that Kerr cared and tried really hard, but that didnt make it better.
I think we've needed a change of scenery from Simmer for quite some time now.

Well said, Kerr would have made a good colour guy. Simmer was too boring.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Hrudey as the new colour guy, and it'd make me really happy.

Well the audio issues were far more aggravating to me. Kerr and Simmer weren't the best but knowing RSN, we'll probably be wishing they were back.

You can't fault Kerr for trying his hardest to be a pbp guy, he just didn't have the chops for it. You can tell he respects Peter Maher a lot, and goes to him for advice. I remember hearing Maher once saying he tries to be neutral when calling goals, so often times, when he shouts "scores!", he does it with the same enthusiasm for either team. I think Kerr tried to emulate that. It beats the guy who does the Oilers or Avs pbp guy, who sounds like someone shot their dog if the other team scores.

Is this still a rumour?
At any rate I sure appreciate Kerr and Simmer's contribution and their love of the game.
If Sportsnet does end these gentlemens contracts, I hope that other opportunities arise for them. Whatever people may say about the "on air skill"
I still recognize that the both of them have represented Calgary and the Flames with class. I have not personally met either, however I hear/read nothing but positives from people who have been lucky enough to have met these fine gentlemen.
Thank you and Cheers.
