I'd be shocked if we didn't nail it. I listened twice.

I listened; he said something about 'that German kid' being big and skilled. In the context of the conversation, didn't sound like he wasn't a consideration...
Is TSN still doing the draft lotto show? With the lotto being extended to all non-playoff teams wouldn't it be kind of odd to have 14 GM's just sitting around, unless they stick with just the bottom 4 GM's in which case what do they do if one of the other 10 wins?
I'm totally fine with Oilers fans cheering for winning the draft lottery. The embarrassing thing was Hall being there and the streamers in the Nugent-Hopkins year.

I'd guess they'll stick with the top 5 and if someone outside of it wins they just have that GM perform a phone interview.
Sounds like Burke is going to choose the coach for the new GM? Pretty big part of a GM's job, no? Any GM that comes in is going to have to be comfortable with the possibility of basically being a figurehead. Not a great attribute.
Not trying to blow one comment out of proportion, but it seems like it's Burke's team here and I wouldn't be surprised if we are GMless next year even though he has staunchly denied the notion thus far.

Last year only the top 5 lottery seeds had representatives. I believe the other teams have a guy waiting by a phone in case they win who Duthie will call if they win.

He's only committed to Hartley next year, and made it sound like whatever happens after that is up to the new GM, even if Burke hopes the new GM extends Hartley 1 more year.
The new GM, whoever it is will be a puppet. Make no mistake, Burke is running this team.
The new GM will be on the same page as Burke. How different that is from a puppet is up to you to decide but my guess is that Burke won't have tell the new what to do or not to do because he will hire someone who has similar ideas as he does.

They do it with the NBA and it isn't that odd but in that case any pick can move up or down so there is more drama as the 13th could be 7th as it isn't an all or nothing situation .
