They were commemorative hats for the National Day of Honour for those who fought in Afghanistan.
Too bad to see Cecil give up a run after Reyes' tying homer in the 8th. Cecil was so good last year that I hope that he'll get back to a comparable level.

I think it's a great thing to commemorate, have family who have done a few tours but for me, the maple leaf on the cap as the primary logo isn't my thing at any time for any reason. I agree with djf on the whole maple boners distain. Would prefer to see the jays not lean on patriotism.
Cecil and delabar are both a little below last year's pace. Good to see Reyes coming around anyway.

Disappointing start to the game today. Happ's struggles make me wonder if we're going to see Stroman starting sooner rather than later.

LOL I was also thinking of Caged Great saying that while watching this game. 1 step forward 1 step back. If they win tomorrow that will still be 6-3 in their last 9 which I can live with. They had their opportunities today with Rasmus and the bases loaded.
Gibbons leaving Lind in against the lefty Santiago was a bit of a head scratcher too.

They can't ever seem to get over that hump. It's like they finally make it to .500 or + a couple, feel like they've done all they need to do here, go on a losing streak, fight back to get to .500 go on a losing streak, rinse repeat.
It's really annoying.

American League is stacked and the Jays are definitely in the lower half.
They can beat the sisters of the poor in the National League but that's about it.

Happy to see the Jays win one. I'm hoping for some wins against a very beatable Indians team.

Can you IMAGINE this team with more than ONE good pitcher?

^^^Just a league average starter would be an improvement over Happ/McGowan.

That wouldn't be the Blue Jays though. They seem to need to almost have all the pieces to compete every year. One year its a lack of starting pitching, the next no bats or defense. They're experts at wasting the glut of defensive and offensive talents most teams would be killing to have right now.
Overpaying for Santana or nearly any of the FA pitchers might have backfired in a year or two but the team would almost certainly be leading the division with him and have a much better bullpen because of it as well.

Totally agree, Jays starters are injury prone (Morrow) and were a risk.
They most definitely require one more good starter.

Jays have no choice at some point of "over paying" for a Starter....
Or they will always fail to acquire Starters thru free agency.
Jays I would guess will continue to try to trade for starters but they don't have a tonne of depth to offer.

It's amazing the production they get from Bautista/Cabrera/Encarnacion/Rasmus, and the money they are saving with the deals they have on these 4. Cabrera Rasmus and Lind are all free agents next season so money will be even tighter going forward if they expect to re-sign any of those three.
I hate to be a pessimist but I just don't see how the pitching can be figured out in time. Likely one of Cabrera/Rasmus/Lind are going to be gone and Jose Reyes is not getting any younger (same with Bautista and EE however neither are showing much sign of slowing down). I still can't really believe AA didn't add a single starter over the off season.
