Jonathon Quick, not happy: "We're professionals. We play back-to-backs all year long. There's no reason we show up and not piss a drop."
Ouch.
He has a right to be pissed. He played two really tough games back to back and his team couldnt support him with even a single goal.

Burke and team assembled at the very least the 4th best team in this tourney by any metric that matters.
At the very most, you could convince yourself that they were the second best by some irrelevant metric like goals for vs crap teams.
Nope, watched hockey for many years and I'm more capable then having to simply look at the results page of a one game elimination tournament to evaluate the abilities of the teams that were involved.

What would you say about the abilities of a team that mailed it in when they had a chance to win a medal? I would say they don't have the mental ability to put in an effort when the going gets tough - something that is relevant even in a 7 game series.

I would say there priorities are messed up, but it's not a comment about their mental ability or toughness. That only gets tested when they really care about the results, which the US, like Canada when in the same situation don't (see 98).
Many of the Canadian players who showed great mental toughness in 2002 and in many other points in their NHL careers! were part of the team that mailed it in against the Finns in 98. Today's result means nothing about the US teams mental abilities, it simply reflects what they care about. Fair to suggest they should have cared more, but that's about all it reflects.

Which makes it weird that you would proclaim with such certainty that Team USA was the second best team at the tournament. Had they been in another pool, or had a different road to the finals, I'm not so sure they would have even been playing for a bronze medal. Would they beat Russia or Sweden? I'm not so sure.
I watched a lot of the USA games, and was honestly not overwhelmed by what I saw.

They did beat Russia. After watching 5 to 6 games of each team in this tourney, I'm feeling pretty confident the best two teams this year are Canada and the US, and that result would likely hold up in 7 game series.
That said, I agree both Russia and Sweden did also show well and would not be easy wins for either country, and could definetley upset one of Canada or the US.
The point being, the assembly of the US team was done very well, and moronic arguments suggesting their 4th place result in the games is a negative reflection on Burke's abilities to run the Flames is just that, a moronic argument.

Teemu Selanne was named Finnish flag-bearer but won't be able to perform those duties. His plane leaves before the closing ceremony.

You'd think I'd have learned by now to never count Team Finland out. Great way to spend a hangover day watching the rerun.
Given all the key players missing and the starting lineups in general, this feels much more like a win than the Turin silver or the Vancouver bronze.
Passing of the torch from Salo to Määttä, Selänne to Granlund... A glimpse of promise from Barkov before his injury, a great tournament from Vatanen... Tuomo Ruutu with his 11th medal in junior and adult world championships or olympics. The guy has never left a tournament without a medal.
Just a feelgood game and a feelgood tournament.

Komarov is Toronto property and will probably return there next season. He went back to the KHL for money and ice time (and to get into the Olympic team) but he likes the life in Canada better.
He's good in his role. You don't see dirty plays, you just see the opponent getting frustrated with him.

Can't say enough about the kind of man and athlete Teemu Selanne is. To hear how he rallied the Finish team before that game started on the importance of playing with pride to win that Bronze medal for themselves is inspiring.
That's further contrasted by non-showing by the Americans.
As much as I love to see Ryan Kessler in tears after these kinds of games he'd be better served looking to a guy like Selanne and taking note of what a true winner looks like.
Sad to know this was Selanne's last Olympic game but what an unbelievable display of character and pride for him to go out on.
