I'm all for one or two year deals as well because we can flip these players at the deadline for additional picks. Helps short term and long term. No issue with this strategy. I however don't want to sign long term deals just for the sake of a couple more wins.

That's not what I mean. The flames have something like a dozen players signed for $30 m next year. They must add contracts and players. They will not be good in any case, but how bad they will be is a choice.

All depends on how you look at things. Not signing anyone significant might be seen to some as intentionally trying to be bad. Or it could be no one wanted to sign here or the deals didn't make sense. Not intentionally trying to be bad but intentionally trying to make smart hockey moves.
