Yeah no kidding. You have to think the other top players aren't pleased about having a weaker team due to coach pettiness. Could be a bad tourny for the Czechs.

I would assume it's a bit different for you, as there is a lot of Czech players in the NHL.

Yeah, it is a different story for me, many Czech players in NHL....So I am just a Flame :-)

This kind of nonsense is common in the old boys clubs of organized sport in Europe. It's endemic in just about every sport in every country.
Major bummer for Jiri because it seemed to mean a lot to him.

Hudler is one the smartest players in the game. On the other hand some of these player selections are plain dumb.

I liked cervenka when he was with us I thought he played well with Hudler. Absolutely baffling decision that Hudler isn't in the team

Absolute kick in the nuts for Hudler watching Freakin Nedved getting the nod I'm sure. Thats got to be much worse than Ryan, Couture, St.Louis not making their squads in favor of current talented NHL calibre players.

They should put the people of each nation in charge of declaring who's on or off their olympic squads. Then we don't have to worry about scumbag idiots that have their own agendas outside the realm of common sense.

Not a bad idea at all. At least if we loose, we loose as a nation and there is no one to blame but ourselves. Cool idea.

For reals. Employ the All-Star system. Have national polls months ahead for the top hockey nations. At least you can be 99% sure the BPAs and likely BTA would be going.
No controversy like we're going to see through the entire tournament with each and every stumble along the way.

Instead we would have to worry about the Canadian team being half Toronto Maple Leafs and half Montreal Canadiens.

Not sure if this has been posted already but I got this from Pierre Lebrun at ESPN:
Quote:
The only issue I have with the Czech roster is, like you, I cannot believe Vrbata and Hudler were left off. The word on the street is that both players don’t get along well with Czech head coach Alois Hadamczik, and that might have played a part in his roster decisions. If that’s the case, shame on the coach.
|
Sounds like politics was the reason he was left off.

I for one will be avidly watching the Czech team in case Pavl Nedved breaks a hip. Hes not allowed to bring a chair onto the ice to help him skate is he?

In a tournament like the Olympics if two of your better players don't get along with the head coach, the head coach should be the one not on the team.

Have a preliminary pool to vote from with limited numbers of players from each team. (While sensibly including all top players)
There are ways to avoid that whole kerfuffle.

Well, Alois Hadamczik coached the Czech juniors to a bronze medal in the 2005 World Junior Championship and the Czech national team to a bronze medal in the 2006 Olympics. Since Ivan Hlinka's death, Hadamczik has been the big dog in Czech hockey coaching. So he can leave off whom he likes (even though the decision on Hudler and Vrbata is, objectively, nuts).

Hudler seems like the friendliest guy too. The type of guy that would be tough to see not getting along with.

Not only is Hudler very talented and deserving of being there on his talent alone, but it has become obvious that this player is full of leadership and character. He played through a very tough season for him personally, and still did well. He knew he could be better, and apologized and said he will be better. He has been even better than last season, and has taken the prized rookie Monahan under his wing and helped to develop him.
Not only is this snub so moronic and short-sighted on talent alone, but he is so undeserving of being snubbed.

Today ´s article
http://oh.idnes.cz/hokejova-nominace...-soci-2014_bem
about that Hudler may be in after all, Hemsky injured, Hadamczik doesn ´t know how serious it is, in case Hemsky will not be good to go, Hudler is maybe the first to replace him.
Also in that article: Hudler ´s agent Petr Svoboda /the scorer of the golden goal in Nagano 98 final for Czech republic/ told Czech media yesterday that this is complete injustice for Hudler, mentioned also some of his other Czech players he represents /Kindl, Fleischmann ..../ The reaction of Hadamczik today was fast and furious, he called Svoboda a liar and that he will not dictate him who to nominate. So another chapter of NonHudler Olympics. It is really, really hot topic in Czech republic..., did not await it. Hudler everywhere in Czech media :-) So we will see how it will turn out, maybe Jiri will be in...it all depends on the extent of Hemsky injury...........
So for the second time today gretings from Czech republic :-)
Stay tuned.... :-)
