Solid gesture by the Flames to salute Bouwmeester on a whistle. Just a short highlight clip and voice over IMO, it's a Burke thing, as for as much as they talked about his time on the ice, the other half was his community involvement. When that was over he got a very solid reaction for about 15 seconds, and I think he was genuinely surprised and pleased and acknowledged the crowd a couple times. Didn't work out like we all hoped, but it was a big deal at the time he signed. The crowning touch...playing "Ironman" by Black Sabbath as the crowd cheered for him.
I say a Burke thing because of the focus on involvement...the previous regime didn't even give the fans an extended camera shot of Darryl Sutter on his first return to the Dome after the coach and GM for 10 years, let alone have some words spoken about him as they did for J-Bo.
Volume is cranked higher at the Dome now, likely to create more of an atmosphere. Wasn't required in the third tonight. Festive mood for sure.
Beasley is good for butchering one or two names every game, but it's almost as if it's getting worse. Tonight was especially bad, especially for a guy who's sole job it is to call out the player names.
He actually got the cadence in saying Bouwmeester wrong on the (poor) penalty, as if his name had hyphen in the middle.
Next up was Pietrangleo he hesitated and then trailed off quietly after "Peter" before finishing, both times he announced it.
Colavaccio was pronounced Colavachio the first time, correct the second.
Also called Lapierre, Lepeter the first time, and then on the second call Lipierre.
Good to see the confidence of SOB, some fantastic lugging of the puck, hustle, and hitting.
Finally, no matter what you think of the man, pretty cool to have the PM of Canada sit in the "common" seats with Flames fans around him as he's home for the holidays. I am sure there are a half dozen guards at various proximity distances, and they actually didn't show him on the main board (just on TV it seems) likely for security, but cool none the less.

He's always sat in the crowd, I've never seen him in a box. Even back in 2004 he was in the middle of the bowl a few rows down from me watching the big screens set up at the dome to telecast the SCF from Florida.

For sure, it's a usual Christmas thing on his part, I am just speaking in general on the concept. The leader of a G7 country to be in that naked of a public position/situation, enjoying a sporting event, says a lot about both the leader of the country, and the people in this country.

I didn't quite understand not showing him on the jumbotron. He's in the same spot. He had a huge lineup to meet him like last time. It wasn't like it was a secret where he was.
They may have had issues with just the number of people in line (they made a couple "please return to your seats the game is about to resume" during the intermissions tonight) and that could have been the reason but I don't think it was security. Still you would think Harper's PR would have loved to have him back on the jumbotron, he gets a huge applause.
Went to the game. Colbourne is very bad. Backlund has hands of stone. Hudler is my fav player now.
Harvey the hound traumatized my daughter....loved it.

Is Colbourne the British spelling of Colborne?
Backlund has been the best Flames forward all month. He generated several scoring chances, got 2 assists and his pass for Hudler's goal was amazing. Hardly hands of stone. I will never understand why one of our best young players has so many haters on this board.

Really proud of this team and very pleased about the direction of the rebuild. The wins may not be there this season but a winning attitude is developing, you can see it. A huge change from the last few years. They care. They try hard all the time. They are in games almost all of the time. That is a huge development.
And, at an individual level, there are a lot of really positive developments. Top of my list include, Giordano playing like a captain, clutch. Colborne looking steady as hell as a third line center and capable of offensive contributions (yes, shootout goals are a major offensive contribution). Monahan's already veteran-like steadiness. Backland and Byron's recent stellar play. And the development of steadier goaltending from our rookie goalies. Never forget, they are rookies only have way through their first NHL seasons.
I think it was noted that this years Flames have been in 25 one goal games. Can only imagine if we were on the right side of those games.
I will picked this years version of the Flames over the last couple of years any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Not as much talent but man oh man, they sure give a solid effort. That was one of the most exciting games I have watched in recent memory.

Game of the season last night, really enjoyable to watch. Flames were full marks for the win, they played their hearts out in the third and OT. I'm glad to see Backlund hitting his stride. He may not ever become an 80 pt player but he is the type of guy you win with. I really hope he keeps this up.

They are 12-7-6 in 1 goal games and 0-5 in 2 goal games. The 5 games they lost by 2 goals are:
Bos 2-0
Edm 4-2, Edm EN goal at 19:12
Col 4-2, Col EN goal at 19:57
Tor 4-2, Tor EN goal at 18:38
Pho 4-2, Pho EN goal at 19:54
Of the 37 games played, 29 of them are 1 goal games if you ignore the EN goals. Of the other 8, Calgary won 2. That leaves 6 games they did not have a chance at tieing in the last minutes of the game.
I really like that they are playing to win every game.

He also pays for every ticket out of his own pocket. He's been offered free seats, but declines. He also does not submit the tickets for reimbursement in an expense report.

Was at the game with my daughter last night. It was great to be able to talk about what an awesome country this is when the PM can just sit in the crowd watching games (paying for the seats, apparently ^). Sure, there are a couple security guys in suits up behind him, but that doesn't change the fact that he can sit in the crowd and not be bothered - other than some well-wishers coming to say hello.
Sometimes we forget - or take for granted - how awesome Canada is.

I dont know if its already been said, but how could Brent Sutter not squeeze more than 2 goals a night out of a better team than this and with Kipper in net?
