Hopefully they are alright, regardless of their stupidity.

Wow, the general stupidity of drivers in the City is just unreal.

Hopefully as a result his/her insurance is jacked up to the point where they will be unable to drive for a very long time.

FFS. Tried to left turn in the 3rd lane out?

http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/01/10...-train-and-van

"When he received a green light for travelling straight northbound he made a left turn cutting in front of the vehicles that were stopped in the turn lane, drove around the arm and the ringing bell and the red lights indicating the C-Train was coming and drove directly into the path of a northbound C-Train."

It should be legal for the cops to cut up your license on the spot if you do something that stupid.

Wow, definitely not the greatest driving generation. Yup license revocation on the spot should be his penalty.

Old people really shouldn't drive after a certain point. They are a complete hazard to themselves and everyone else.

I agree with this. My dad is 81 and I will not ride on his SUV if he is driving. I insist on driving.

My Grandfather almost killed my brother and I in Florida one year. Pulled out in front of a cube van doing 1/3 the speed of traffic.

Almost sounds like a suicide attempt. But I guess if he is 81 then everyone will just think it's someone who was too old to drive.

Tyre Killers or Retractable Bollards. Why doesn't the city get on this. Faster to tow away some twit's wrecked car, than the aftermath of this.

My guess? Calgary Transit and City Of Calgary Roads are both woefully underfunded, and both of these require a significant amount of maintenance.

In these car vs. train collisions, has there even been an instance where the driver of the car wasn't at fault? Whether it be LRT driver error, or signal problems.

That's an honest question, and not a sarcastic response to you in particular, burn_this_city. LRT operators are human, so there's always a chance, but I have yet to hear of a situation where the driver of the car didn't make a massive mistake of some sort.

They'd probably take some time to go up and down too, wouldn't they?

Snow/ice might also be an issue with something like that.

I will expand later as I was the main eyewitness and im on my phone right now, but snow nor ice were part of this equation....entirely driver error. Funny thing is I saw how it happened. No he did not intentioally go around the arm though.
