Sorry for this question as I haven't had a chance to browse this thread like I did before I bought a nexus 4.
Am I able to go into a futureshop or something and buy this phone outright from koodo or the like without having to sign a contract? Looking to buy one as a christmas present but don't feel like dealing with shipping times.

Yes you can buy the phone outright from Koodo off contract, but Koodo charges a $75-100 premium over what Play store will charge. FS and BB do not sell phones without a plan. You can buy directly from Koodo, but they also charge another $50 odd dollars for their "pay as you go" customers aka, people who do not have a monthly plan with them if you buy with them in store. If you buy online you can get around this but the phone is still more expensive than directly through play.
Hmm, ok. I didn't know it would be more money that way, it wasn't for the 4.
Any chance of ordering one from the play store now and have it delivered before Christmas? Or is that just wishful thinking?

I would be shocked if it doesn't arrive before Christmas. The listed time to ship is 2-3 weeks, it's not going to take 2 weeks from shipping to arrive to you.
Can anyone tell me about the camera? We need a new camera (we have an ok one but its from 2006ish - time to upgrade) and we need a 2nd cell phone (our first cell phone is an old school flip phone ha). But budget is also an issue for us...so in looking at everything, I am thinking about buying a Nexus 5 outright from google, and then taking it to Wind and going on either their $40/month or $50/month plan.
Soooo....is the camera that bad? I have 2 little kids so we need pictures and video. I've looked at stuff like an iphone 4 or whatever that you can get for $0 on a contract, but I would be stuck on a 2/year contract and its too expensive over the length.
Given the above, is the nexus 5 good to buy, or is tehre another smartphone for a reasonabl-ish price that would work better? Thanks.
How easy is it for scratches to form on the Nexus 5 screen? Do you guys recommend an invisible screen protector or does that affect the look of the phone?
What is the benefit of the wireless charger besides the cool factor and the couple of seconds you would save from having to plug it in?

Definitely the camera isn't the greatest unfortunately in anything other than good lighting (then again so is almost everything). If taking photos is a huge thing for you, I'd honestly take a look and see if something like the Lumia 900/920/1020 aren't viable options to pick up used. Great cameras for photo and video and because of the relative lack of popularity I'd imagine you could find something for cheap.

Just as easy as any other screen. To be honest, I feel like it's more about luck/how anal(careful) you are about taking care of it. Personally I like the peace of mind of having that layer, especially for any resale purposes.
It's not just the ease of charging and picking up the phone after charging, it's also saving your charging port from any wear and tear or potential accidents.
Alright! ordered a black 16gb as a Christmas gift. Hope it arrives in time!

Got my Nexus 5 on Friday - 3 weeks from time of order - earlier than quoted 4-5 weeks. Absolutely love this phone.
I know it's been discussed, but any updated recommendations on screenprotector, cases for this device?
