No, like I said, not based on any games, just on the fact that they have one NHL guy and two older Euro signings. I think Ortio is pencilled to go to the AHL no matter what.

Not a complaint, mind you, I've assumed as much from the start. I do think that based on last season (he was voted top-3 goalie in the Finnish league), he has an outside chance to outplay the other Euros but nothing short of a magnificent shutout streak would make the coaches choose him over Rämö.

I wonder who'll be suiting up for the Dome game.. Pretty much all the young guys are in the Sask group.

Damn this preseason split-squadding..
Flames vs Ottawa in Saskatoon Monday
Flames vs Islanders in Regina Tuesday
Islanders @ Flames in Calgary Tuesday

Ward was in Calgary, running the bench with Bob Hartley and Robbie Ftorek.

Klimchuk update.
http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=682662

Quote:
Unable to join his fellow 2013 NHL Draftees in Flames' opening preseason game against the Edmonton Oilers in Calgary, Klimchuk has remained sidelined with an abdominal wall strain originally suffered while in camp with his Regina Pats.

And while the injury sounds painful, it's nothing compared to being forced to simply watch.

"Having to watch (hurts)," said Klimchuk, who has been skating with a handful of others still in the infirmary. "I was pretty excited to come to my first NHL training camp and to get hurt before was something that was pretty devastating.
Quote:
"That's part of the game," the 18-year-old said. "It's going to happen in your career and you can't let injuries or anything like that get you down. [Monahan and Poirier] are older than me. At this time next year, I'll be doing the same thing they're doing this year. That's fine with me. I just want to make sure when I get back I'm 100 percent and I'm not rushing back and not completing the process properly.

Quote:
The biggest lesson learned to date? Being a pro off the ice.

"How to act as a professional, how seriously they take training, their flexibility and making sure everything is in working order and the way it should be every day," he said. "You don't take any time off here. You'll play a game, practice and then work out again just to get a little extra in and try to get yourself ahead of the pack.

"To see the best players in pro hockey like Cammalleri work that much harder is eye opening and something I can really appreciate."

It's something he can take back to the Pats.

As long as they are the right vets it can be a good thing. Still think we have plenty of dead wood to ship out this season.

At least Granlund will be playing at the dome. Who else.. Ferland, Horak, Bouma, Kulak, Kanzig, Street? Hmm, not terrible. Enough to keep satisfied. But they didn't leave us home fans much of the young talent..

Hope Markus gets lined up with the likes of Cammy and lights up the Isles.

If he wasn't a UFA, he would be my choice for captain.

Majority of the cuts should happen after the split squad games on Tuesday.

After the games tomorrow. Between some minor injuries and playing another couple of split-squad games, they still need all the players in camp to be available.

Probably because he takes his fitness and conditioning extremely seriously.

Great mentor for the young guys.
