Oh man, the battle of Alberta takes on a whole new meaning now. Theres going to be a rumble in a barn somewhere near Red Deer featuring two NHL Presidents of Hockey Operations.

Just like when Ken King would get interviewed for all kinds of reasons. The president of a NHL team isn't usually someone who gets to avoid the microphone. Being who he is pretty much puts him in the spotlight automatically just because the media is always looking to engage Burke and see "what is he going to say today?".
However, he will likely find that the attention in Calgary is a lot less intense than it was in Toronto. I imagine this will be a walk in the park compared to that.

Step 1 - Hire Brian Burke as Calgary GM
Step 2 - Wait for Darryl Sutter to get his next GM role
Step 3 - Calgary Flames profit

Yep, I know Janko is not on their level. He still should be a 2nd/3rd liner which a lot of teams have had. You need a bunch of guys to be good quality both so you can trade them for other things and use them in your system.
By the way, Chicago did (which was the team I was thinking of when I wrote the 15-20 #)

Not very much discussion about King saying he brought this concept up to ownership 2.5 years ago.
Puts a new perspective on the tampering or meddling accusations - which i dont believe have merit in any event. (more like sour grapes of staff looking to point fingers)

King played a very large part in forcing that ROR offer sheet.
Don't ask for my source, I will not disclose.

Maybe it will end the "Curse of Cliff" and we will actually be able to do well in a trade with the Leafs.
Even the small ones that seem like nothing end up biting us in the ass.
To Toronto:
Wayne Primeau
2nd Round Pick
To Calgary:
Anton Stralman
Colin Stuart
7th round pick
That 2nd rounder just happened to turn into....Brandon Saad.

I feel much more confident with the future of this franchise with Burke at the helm. He may be stubborn and hot headed, but he's integral and stands by his word and vision. He has a lot more in common with Sutter than he does with Feaster, and I say that in the most positive way.

Is it a source that would definitely be in the know, or a "they know a guy" kind of source?

Does it matter either way?
I think the bigger question is: if KK was driving the ROR offersheet and that makes people cringe to think about, how do they now feel having KK elevated out of the picture and BB now in his place?
I've always liked King but I am much happier to have him working on the overal entertainment organization and focus on the arena specifically. As an aside - The fact that the Saddledome cleanup has gone as well as it has actually makes me feel pretty good about the much larger project to build the Flames a new home.

I don't buy that at all. I don't believe this is a move that King welcomed as this was all Murray Edwards. I have heard from high up employees (will not disclose because they still work for the Flames) that King was/is a bully and a micromanager. As far as the bully part goes I'm not sure a lot will change with Burke but I don't feel he's a guy that will stick his nose where it doesn't belong.

The difference here is this:
Burke is controlling and an intelligent hockey mind.
King is controlling and an intelligent business mind.
Someone is sticking their nose in, who do you want it to be?
Feaster has admitted to not being much of a hockey guy, and personally? I think this structure is perfect.
Plus, with those above stating that King had a hand in the ROR fiasco, it now doesn't surprise me that Feaster kept his job and Burke has now been hired as PHO. I don't like to get into the prognosticating of what may or may not happen in the executive aspect, but based on the relationship Burke and Edwards have, I would be TERRIBLY surprised if he does in fact report to King. It seems much more like King is the "boss" because he needs to feel like he's the boss, but I think this effectively ends his involvement with all decisions related to on-ice product.

Oh I agree 100% and wasn't trashing Sutter for making the deal.
My point was even when we make a relatively harmless deal with the Leafs, the 2nd round pick ends up being a guy who is a blue chip prospect with some success already.
Just cursed.
