Or, maybe, they commute at different times. Is that possible?

I think the best part of all this is that I actually grew up in Lake Bonaventure.

I didn't want to get into the Google Map debate but I'm being sucked in...

I could be wrong on this, but Google doesn't incorporate winter, construction, or accidents into the driving times as far as I know. Driving season in Calgary is either winter, or construction, so there is almost always a delay, particularly in rush hour, as compared to the map times.

For example, Google just told me my (current) house to downtown should only be 11 minutes. It's easily double that time in summer rush-hour. Winter is worse with less people on vacation and more snow and ice.

Google is all-knowing though. Maybe I just drive super slow?!

I just google mapped my downtown office to Lake Bonavista.

"In current traffic: 45 minutes"

This is at 4:50pm in the summer.... that will never be 20 minutes if you work office hours.

There are several accidents on Southbound Deerfoot that would be significantly affecting the "in current traffic" numbers.

Most people wouldn't trade those for a man made lake surrounded by early examples of McMansions.
Geez have you ever even been here? A Safeway shares a parking lot with the lake. There is a mall, walk-in clinic, dentist, restaurants and pubs in the same parking lot as well. Avenida is in Bonavista, as is a movie theater and gym.

It's a strange group we have here sometimes. Every person I know in real life would answer "true" to the following statement: All things being equal, it is nicer to live by an amenity-filled lake than to not.

Except as I replied before, the options are never, Lake or no lake. Land is finite, the options are lake or some other development that would have been there instead. And many people would choose the something else.

But how could all things be equal? It's not like where there's no lake there's a black hole instead. My subdivision in Lethbridge has a lake... can't go in the water. Therefore it's of zero value unless you back right onto it and get something of a view. At least a park, rec centre, etc. are of value to everyone else.

Exactly. Or, and I know this might be hard to believe, but there are some people who don't give a crap about swimming, boating, skating, etc.

You are coming off really dense (for lack of a better word - not trying to start a personal attack here).

Why do you think Lake Bonavista property values aren't sky-high to reflect the awesomeness you speak? Why isn't Lake Bonavista at or near the top of the list that started this thread? Are you the smart one and everyone else is dense because they don't realize how awesome Lake Bonavista is?

I'm not going to read the whole thread - so maybe someone else said this and I apologize if they did. Didn't we do this already last year? I swear I thought I was reading a bumped thread. I had to keep looking at the dates. Yeah, 7-29-2013... that's this week... 7-29-2013, yup, still this week... once more, just to be sure, 7-29-13.

Yeah, can't see Hamptons and Edgemont being worse than Huntington. The list doesn't make sense at all.
