ALL ABOARD!

I could see them introducing Doomsday in this. Superman takes on Doomsday, Batman focuses on the people who created him.

Personally I hope to see the detective/genius Batman. Maybe have him get into a battle of wits with Lex Luthor while Supes takes on the bigger baddie Luthor has created or recruited. Although Superman and Batman better not get along right off the bat, they need to show how their personalities are so different, and that they don't always get along. Maybe Bruce will use his detective skills to track down Superman and find out his secret identity, things like that (just like it the cartoon).

I like when there are interesting twists on famous characters. Who wants to see the same things over and over again?
Apparently the knock on Affleck is that he wouldn't be "believable" as Batman. Also not believable: a billionaire who sneaks out at night to beat up punks while dressed in a rubber bat costume.

Solid casting there, Cranston might be a tad too old for the role over a six movie deal, but this I could definitely get behind.

I have trouble picturing Affleck as Batman, but I'll wait and see. I having nothing against him.
I remember when I heard they cast Heath Ledger as the Joker. I couldn't picture that either at the time, but it ended up being a great pick.

haha What overreaction! If Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer can be Batman then Ben Affleck can be as well.
Good choice. I hope when he is in Bruce Wayne character he pulls out his old role from Boiler Room.

I don't know what I have lower expectations of. The Calgary Flames 2013/14 season, the Oakland Raiders 2013 season, or this film.

Oh this is a gold mine!
Petition to Warner Brothers: Remove Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the Superman/Batman movie.
Quote:
His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won't do the role justice. He's not built, nor is he intimidating enough for the role of Batman. His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he's not remotely close to an action star. Please find someone else.
Update: 8/23/2013 3:39PM EST
I would like to add that this petition was not meant in any way to harm Ben Affleck or his career. I respect Affleck's work, I just feel he is inappropriate for the role.
I would also like to denounce any petitions on any other sites bearing this title. I am not/nor was I ever affiliated with them. It came to my attention that someone used my title on whitehouse.gov and I do not support that. The U.S. government has more pressing matters to deal with such as the chemical warfare being used in Syria, rather than who was cast as Batman. This is a neutral site which is why I chose it for fans to voice their opinions.
Thank you.

From the supporter comments:

Batman is an important cultural icon, he represents the very best of us and our ability to overcome our own personal failings to rise above to a cause of justice and rightness. Batman is the equivalent of a mondern day myth, lore which has grown and resonated with fans for generation. Thus, we feel that choosing the right person to represent this figure should carry some weight, and while Mister Affleck may awash with many fine qualities, those which embody Bruce Wayne/Batman are not among them. Please make a more fitting selection for the millions of fans who wish to see their hero given the representation he deserves.

Today I woke up to a nightmare rather than from one. My favorite character of all time and most other people's favorite as well, DESTROYED by the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman. My hands can barely type those words. WHY, HOW, WHAT did we do to deserve this. What an epic fail on the part of Warner Brothers. It is a sad day for all who love this character. Who would have thought that in the end it wasn't the Joker or two face or even Ra's al Ghul that took down the Batman but a few misguided executives at Warner Brothers. I WILL NOT BE SEEING THIS MOVIE, NOR WILL I PURCHASE THE MERCHANDISE. You have lost a life long fan.

Seriously? A petition? I don't really like the casting choice but come on. At least they didn't cast Shia Labeouf.

Screw these petition guys. How can they do this before putting up a petition to have no more Fast and the Furious sequels?

I think the fact that a mere casting announcement 2 years before the release date has inspired a petition goes to show that good or bad this movie will make 8 billion dollars.

Yeah for sure. I don't know if Ben will be good or bad, but one thin for certain is I will see this movie. As will the bulk of the people who have a predetermined view of how it will be, good or bad. They couldn't possibly be beaten in an argument about it because they haven't seen it. They will see and find ways to tear it apart (as has been done with MOS and every other comic movie). My bet? The movie is pretty good, Affleck is fine. But it's not The Dark Knight, so it will be maligned by "true" Batman/Superman fans, because apparently they know something we don't.
I view all these comic movies as extensions/interpretations of the comics no different than someone writing a new graphic novel. I don't expect them to follow any of the source material really, and in fact I like when they come up with their own stories rather than piecing together things from the past. Obviously the origins and characters are the same, but I like to see the changes people make, even making up your own characters is fine. Why not? Someone did at somepoint.

Cranston as Luthor would be awesome. They can make him look a bit younger if they need to. We also have no idea how much time will be passing between Man of Steel and this second film. They might decide to jump ahead a few years.. to go with the rumoured more mature Batman.
I think a lot of people in this thread will be eating their words after the movie is released. But GirlySports comment isn't fair, you can't compare people for critisizing an actors ability to fill a ROLE vs. the believability of a fictional character in a comic book universe. These are two totally different arguments.
Quote:
They also believe Affleck-buddy Matt Damon could be up for a role. “DC also does have major interest in bringing Matt Damon into the Justice League now that Affleck is on board, and it is rumored that he is being considered for Aquaman or Martian Manhunter.”
|
Yes. Then in the opening scene have Aquaman get shot at, deflect the bullets like Superman as he is bullet proof, use his super strength/agility to punch the face off of the guys shooting him before they know what has happened, then his telepathic powers to make the last bad guy shoot himself in the head.
Aquaman is a #####? Riiiiiight...
