Unlike so many NCAA prospects he's not a one-dimensional guy who has to light it up offensively to fit onto an NHL roster. People hoping he can transition to the NHL better than most NCAA players are doing so with good reason in my opinion.

Just to add to that, Knight is one of the older prospects in the cupboard. Having a big 22 year old rookie isn't going to hurt any team's bottom 6 (third line specifically) and because he is more physically developed than most 18 year old rookies there isn't a huge risk to his health by rushing him.
Also, its not like making this year's Flames roster is going to be all that special. Young players are expected to be on the roster of a team in a rebuild and we want them to be there to learn from all these "strong character veterans" we want to act as mentors.
If Monahan does not make the team this year then I would like to see Backlund, Stajan and Knight being rotated through the top 3 lines. If Monahan does make the team then I would still like to see a rotation but with Monahan being a bit more sheltered (ie. staying off the first line).

I think the kids will make the team:
Glencross-Backlund-Cammalleri
Baertschi-Monahan-Hudler
Galiardi-Stajan-Stempniak
Bouma-Knight-Jones
McGrattan/Horak
Giordano-Brodie
Russell-Wideman
Butler-OBrien
Breen
Trade Jackman.
Jones can move up the lineup if he plays well.
After the Trade Deadline things will look different as Stajan, Stempniak and Cammalleri will probably all be traded. This will open up more time for Horak and Knight.
Glencross-Backlund-Hudler
Baertschi-Monahan-Jones
Galiardi-Knight-Horak
Bouma-B.Jones-McGrattan
Reinhart
Giordano-Brodie
Russell-Wideman
Butler-OBrien
Breen-Cundari

The after trade deadline roster above looks pretty much how I see it panning out, as well. Except there is no way Blair Jones jumps ahead of Reinhart. Hartley made that pretty clear last year.
Also, I think one of the vet defensemen gets traded. Probably Butler, Russell, or Wideman.

My guess is that this is Butlers last year on the flames. He is a UFA after this season and my bet is that he is traded at the deadline. Not sure they will be able to trade Russel. Have to think that the Blues tried last year when they acquired 2 d-men at the deadline.

I dont think they tried to trade Russell. When you are a team like St. Louis expecting a playoff run you stack up, especially on defence.
In any long playoff run anywhere from 8-10 dman I would expect to see get into the lineup. In the 04 run we had Montador and Commodore in the same game... I remember alot of tense moments when those two would come on the ice haha.
Hitchcock also really likes the player. The GM wanted older vets so Russell was the odd man out.
I think he will be a good addition to our team, a 2nd Brodie almost....

In the '04 playoffs we had 1 game with Commodore, Montador and a prospect (I think it was Evans or something) who got all of 2 shifts.
edit. http://www.hockey-reference.com/play...fs?mobile=true
My bad they all played in two games, and only 1 #### the game i was thinking of.

He has been given every opportunity in the world to become a full-time NHL player and he has failed miserably.

Blair Jones is one of Feaster's biggest drafting success stories.
Feaster's draft record in Tampa is appalling.

Yeah, I heard Feaster complaining he kept drafting big, tough, defensive defencemen.

Overall, I like the jist of that lineup. I do not agree with some of the lines (Glencross is more likely to get 1st line minutes than 3rd line on that roster) but I would love to see those players there. Also, there is room for two more scratched players to make a full roster since you only have 12 forwards and 7 D. Throw Reinhart and Cundari in there.
Personally, I would rather see a couple more trades than just Stempniak, Stajan and Cammalleri. I hope to see MacDonald shipped out to make way for Ramo / Berra. Similarly, I would be okay with Jackman and SOB being shipped out to make room for guy Breen on the backend and maybe someone like Nemisz on the 4th line.

Commodore and Montador both played 20 games in the 04 run. I'm still surprised we unofficially won the cup. Just goes to show chemistry and character go a long way in sucess.
Seems like we are trying to build that again here, this time with some more young skill..

The Flames have been dead last in face-offs the last two seasons and they just acquired the guy who led the NCAA in FOs last year. I highly doubt they will have him playing LW in Abby.

Agreed.
In addition to that he is a right handed shot.
