I found this to be a good article discussing the state of the cupboard and wider organizational depth.

Good outsiders take.

That and it was clearly written by an Oiler Fan. Hey our cupboards wouldn't be so bare, and without top end talent if we had 3 years of number 1 overall's either. Rebuilds don't happen over night in most cases they do tend to take 4 to 5 years if done properly and patiently.
The Oilers are entering year 4 or 5 and better stop looking over the fence at the Flames. If they do the police better be ready with riot gear, because if the Oilers are drafting top 10 again this year their fans will not put up with much more excuses and Stanley Cup Ring retorts.

Going to go against the grain and pick Sven. He's accomplished far more at the NHL level. Also, Sven has jumped up in ranking since his draft day.
If smoeone offered me a 1 for 1 swap Sven for Monahan, not a chance I'd take it.

That's all you took from that article? What about the interesting section at the end talking about how to plan the rebuild, what strategies to employ, etc?
Wow, you'd think people were averse to any analysis of the Flames.

It's just not that interesting, it's nothing that hasn't been endlessly debated on this forum.

Statements of the obvious. I thought I had mentioned that.

Not adverse at all, as long as the writer puts in some original thought and doesn't just regurgitate the same tired points that have been rehashed ad nauseum. I found nothing original or in depth that would give the impression they guy even bothered to take more than a cursory glance at the Flames prospects, as listed on hockeysfuture.com. Give me some actual analysis. Contrast the players in the system and give reasons why they are good or bad, or even if they fit. I see nothing in this article that is analysis. It's repetition of the same perceptions the team has faced for a decade.

Alright well, sorry for posting an article on the Flames prospect cupboard in a thread titled the Flames prospect cupboard. I'll know for next time that we're all smarter than that.

You presented it as a good outsiders take, it isn't, people disagreed. Now you're whining like a spoiled little girl?

As a Canucks fan I am pretty envious of the prospects that the Flames have, they have done a really good job of building a solid base of players, while allowing the boom-bust players (ie Gaudreau) to mature at their own time in a safe environment, where they can learn to be dominant players. This is what the Red Wings have done so well, they breed players to be winners by giving them the time necessary to grow. I know that a lot of Flames fans have been hard on Feaster but the guy has done a great job in the draft so far and saying that I admit that I am counting chickens before they hatch, but the early indications are the the coop will be full in a couple of years.
Edit: This is honestly the reason that I don't think the Flames should rush into the let the young guys play all the hard minutes, not sign any veterans and trade who is on the team. You need the solid mentors who can show young players what it takes to win games and what it takes to be a professional but more importantly take some of the pressure off the young players when they inevitably slump in their first couple of years. Throwing prospects to the wolves is a recipe that is destined for failure.

No I never said anything of the sort. I never said it was garbage and I never said it was Oiler baiting. What I did say was it was written by an Oilers Fan and clearly it was as the blogger did mention that he wished Edmonton had got Monahan.
To point out that our prospects are bare. Well that's kind of a no brainer as it only took 2 years for Feaster to even admit we have to rebuild. Just going off Feaster quotes during that time period.
What I was pointing out is that it is very possible as admitted to by many Oilers Fans that many are done being patient after their rebuild. They need and want to see results this year. So maybe just maybe a self admitted Oiler fan blogger needs to shed some intellectual honesty unto themselves rather than spending 10 paragraphs on the hated rival.
The article itself seemed more to me like a bunch of paragraphs and words that said the Flames are really behind the times. Well yeah I think so too or I wouldn't have voted to predict the Flames will be 29 -30th this year. It just didn't require a 10 page essay(an exageration I know but so was the article by the end).

Baertschi is 9th on Pronman's most underused players: http://www.hockeyprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=363

Again forwards have defensive responsibility so that could have played into the low ice time for a lot of these youngsters, but it’s also possible some top young talents like Galchenyuk, Mika Zibanejad, Beau Bennett and Sven Baertschi could see a notable rise in their counting numbers soon.

Hartley's use of Sven last year was ridiculous.

What was he supposed to do. We had like 17 LWs last season with 3 or 4 of them ahead of Baertschi on the depth chart.

Think it was actually 27. It was so bad, LWs were wearing goofy disguises and trying to pass themselves off as playing other positions.
Worst disguise: Roman Cervenka carrying a sign that said, 'This guy is a centre, no, really. Signed, Jay Feaster.'
Best disguise: The clown suit in which Dennis Wideman attempted to play D. Some people still haven't figured that one out. (Shooting right-handed was a nice touch — made the hoax almost convincing.)
Weirdest disguise: That guy who kept turning up with full goalie equipment on, but clearly had the skill set and training of a natural winger. I think his name was Irving something.
Seriously, though, Baertschi was a victim of a real logjam. The one position he knew how to play at the NHL level was the only position where the Flames had a surplus of NHL-grade players. In the circumstances, it's rather impressive that he cracked the lineup at all.
