Loved to hear from Button that Monahan decided to stay with the 67s and never sulked or complained about how bad they were.
Here is a guy who was at one point considered top 3 draft prospect. It was his draft year and instead of demanding a trade to a team that would go deep into the playoffs with better linemates to improve his draft stock, he decided to stay and help the 67s.

When was this? As long as anyone's talked about this draft all I've heard about was Mackinnon, Jones and Barkov.
Let's be clear, this guy will play in the show. That's the benefit of this pick, you get a roster player, and he could be a very good one. Personally I see him as the Flames #2C of the future, which is a pretty damn good way to use a #6 overall pick. Thank God they didn't try to draft a defenseman.

He dfieinitely has #1 potential. I really like the fact all the scouts say he has the 2nd best hockey sense behind Drouin. He needs to work on his strength more than anything to improve his skating and explosiveness which I think is doable (listening to his interviews he is aware and has been working hard at it already). His high hockey sense and strong 2 way play give me the impression he has top line potential. I am such a huge fan of this pick

TSN Scout Craig Button:Sean is a very well rounded player who has versatility in his game and can play multiple positions and situations and do it extremely well. His skills may not be flashy but they are very good with a mind that is exceptional. His skating is very good but what he does so well is change speeds and keep opponents off balance. He is quick and very difficult to knock away. He recognizes opportunities very quickly and is able to take full advantage of them. Call him 'opportunistic' if you will, but he finds a way to be productive. He has a very good touch around the net, his shot is accurate and he is deceptive in his approach. He can play on the wing and he can play a defensive role, but the beauty of Sean is that he understands what is required of the various positions and roles and doesn't necessarily need to score to contribute to winning. A very balanced player who performs when it counts.#Comparable Style:#Eric Staal

Not all the scouts by any stretch. ISS rated Drouin, Lindholm, Nichuskin, Barkov, Shinkaruk and Domi as forwards with better hockey sense (Excellent rating compared to his Very Good.)
However Monahan did get top marks in size/strength, puck skills and offensive play.
Size/Strength: Excellent
Skating: Good
Puck Skills: Excellent
Shot: Very Good
Offensive Play: Excellent
Defensive Play: Very Good
Physical Play: Good
Competitiveness: Good
Hockey Sense: Very Good
Only MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Burakowsky, Domi, Dickinson and Monahan received the "Excellent" grade for puck skills. Some good company.

There you go, never saw those. Amazing Drouin's not even on the list and a number of guys who went in the 20's are.
Just goes to show how hard it is to project how well a prospect will do. Give it another year, and the ranking will change drastically again I bet. That's just the nature of the beast.
I love having Monahan as a Flame. Hoping he can turn into a Bergeron type player. Having the top line 2-way center is so important for challenging for the cup. Absolutely pumped to have Monahan.
