The last year he posted a positive plus minus rating was 2007-2008. As much as it's a bit of a lucky stat at times, the dominant players in the league are on the right side of it. It's no coincidence that in the last 3 injury shortened seasons Crosby is +61 in only 99 games. To be a dominant player in the league you need to outscore your opposition when you're on the ice, it's been 5 seasons since Iginla has been that player. Yes he's still been able to put up some respectable numbers, but so have a few of the players on the Oilers the last few years and just like the Flames it's gotten them absolutely no where.
I think the last few seasons Iginla has been living off his legacy where he was a dominant player in the league. The stat line was still decent but the team was going no where with him as their leader/star.
I think there is a very good chance this next season will be Iginlas last.

Crosby is a bad comparison. Face it, wingers are generally not Selke candidates.
The things that affect plus minus are centers and D. Wingers make minimal relative difference in a defensive strategy. The guy can score, even when his centers and D are below average at recovering the puck and driving play up ice.
He was dominant with rough and tumble D and good 2 way centers like Conroy and Langkow. Yes, he is getting older but has not played as the offensive catalyst on a strong defensive team.

Tippet might be gone, Mike Smith might be gone, Shane Doan just signed an extension and Iginla and Doan are buddies.
Seems like the perfect 'pressure's off' location for Jarome.

I'm stunned with all the Iggy bashing talk that he is barely a 3rd line player all of a sudden that someone hasn't said he will play for big $ in the KHL.
If Iggy wants his star $ he will put himself in a market of 4-5 teams, if he is willing to play for 2.5-3m he will have 28 teams interested in him.

Phoenix? Is a good fit, but only if they get him cheap. The other teams not a good fit? Detroit? Not as long as Babcock is coaching there. Islanders? Again, only if he comes cheap as I see him as the third line RW on that team behind Grabner and Okposo.

Someone in here suggested DAL, that is starting to make a lot of sense to me... Dallas, Anaheim and the Islanders are my top choices at the moment... Aside from the cheaper deal to stay in PIT option.

If Bertuzzi can find ice time in Detroit, I have no concern about Iginla

I don't understand Dallas/NY Islanders at all. Doesn't he want to win the Stanley Cup? If he didn't, he could have just finished is career in Calgary.
I think if he doesn't re-sign in Pittsburgh, LA or San Jose would be the best bets for him (Anaheim/Chicago/Detroit are other possibilities)

It's not a matter of whether Iginla wants to win a Cup; it's a matter of whether the contenders have the cap space and roster spot for him.

Its gonna be one or the other, but not both. I bet he takes the roster spot and signs for a basement bargain deal ($1-2M).

All the contenders I mentioned have a roster spot for him if Iginla takes a pay cut. Signing a 2 year/$6 million on those teams works.

I'd love to see him in SJ as Thornton is his ideal C, I believe.

1. Re-signs with Pens on a very cheap 1 year.
2. Signs with Hawks on a very cheap 1 year
3. Sign with one of the 3 California teams for several years in the 4 to 4.5 million range.
