Have to go with Bowey here. A good sized, smooth skating, puck moving defenseman with high upside is a perfect 22 pick. A good western Canadian kid from a stellar whl team with a strong track record of developing nhl defensemen.

Thanks, for some reason I thought I read that Calgary was one of those teams.

Not trying to make a point but looking for some explanation
---------------------
Petan born March 22, 1995 5-9 165 . 71 games 48 goals 120 pts +68 and playoffs 21 games 9 goals 28 pts and +13 . He had 43 PIM in regular season and 16 in playoffs (despite the shout downs to the contrary indicates that he is involved in the physical aspect of the game) . Petan was the +/- leader on his team.
He was 2nd in team scoring in both regular season and playoffs. He arguably had as good a season as team-mate 20 year old Ty Rattie (and coveted prospect in Iginla/Bouwmeester trade hopes) who was drafted 32nd overall 2 years ago.
---------------------
Hunter Shinkurak born Oct 13, 1994 (5 months older) 5-10 181 64 games 37 goals 86 pts -13 and playoffs 8 games 3 goals 6 pts and +0 . He had 44 PIM in regular season and 6 in playoffs.
He was second in his teams scoring and 1st in the playoffs
-------------------
Max Domi born March 2 , 1995 (same age as Petan) 5-9 185 64 games 39 goals 87 points +33 and playoffs 21 games 11 goals 36 pts and +12. 71 regular season PIM 26 in the playoff
Domi lead his team in regular season scoring (2nd in ppg) and also in the playoffs. He lead his team in +/- (tied with Zaradov)
------------------------
Both Domi and Petan play centre..... indicates that they have either better skating skills and/or hockey smarts.
Why would Shinkurak go 9th overall in this mock draft, Domi 12th and Petan might drop to 2nd round?
Do the 1-2 inches and 15-20 pounds count that much? Both Domi and Shinkaruk will contribute in the NHL based on talent and skill and not their ability to knock someone off the puck.
Are there intangibles that I am missing?
Domi had a great playoff performance.... but was it that much better than Petan's?
Petan looks to have had a statistically significant better regular season than either Shinkaruk or Domi.
Petan , to me, has a Cliff Ronning feel to him. Basically the same size ... Ronnings 69 goals and 136 points in his draft year got him picked in the 7th round #134 overall in 1984. He ended up 6th in NHL points from that draft class. I don't think Petan drops to #134 this year

Where's the Poll?
I think Petan can be taken @28th. Zykov and Hartman are more of a toss up as to them being available at 28th. I think I could gamble a bit with Zykov and Petan falling to 28 and take Hartman @ 22. But it's very conflicting as I see Zykov as a Sven type player with an incredible drive to get better and prove he belongs. Hartman has Captain material written all over him and has Burke qualities that the Flames lack. Pugnacity and Tenaciousness.
Lazar would be nice too but I haven't paid too much attention to his scouting reports as I thought he would be going higher than 22.

Is Petan another Byron or another Fleury? Petan looks a bit weak (aka Byron). With Domi, I'm not too concerned about him being tough enough for the NHL.

as an 18 year old Byron got drafted in the 7th round after a 21 goal 44 pt season.
Not a valid comparison at all.

Fair enough, I just assumed he must have racked up the points in junior, because besides the potential of producing offense I don't see what he provides a team.

Byron was drafted in the 6th round. After he was drafted he had a pretty good jr career. In 2007/08 he had 37 goals and 68 points in 52 games. The following year he had 99 points. He also showed promise in his first 2 years in the AHL with the pirates. Even so, i doubt he is ever going to be a full time NHL player.

We just moved a good sized smooth skating puck moving defenceman that had high upside when he was drafted. Bowey's description in the THN draft preview leaves me leery.
One of Lazar, Hartman, Tompher or De la Rose suits me fine at 22. High character and hate to lose.

Voted Lazar, but now have reconsidered and want Morrisey.
Whichever poster said their dream draft was Monahan, Lazar and Morrisey... I could not agree more.
Not likely, but man would that be an ideal result.
These two weeks simply can't end fast enough!

His preview mentions that he has the same skill set as bouwmeester, but he also uses his sizze more and plays for physically. He also doesn't have the non chalant attitude that Jay has. He wants to win, wants to get better. You can only dream of drafting a Bouwmeester type player at 22nd overall.
