This isn't about needing to tank for better draft picks who may or may not work out. I like to see my team win and slowly build the smart way while still competing.

People around these parts have been screaming for a rebuild and now that it is here we think we can turn it around in a year or two? it makes no sense to bring in a veteran to take time away from a young guy that needs to play to develop. You need to build towards something and Richards doesn't help that, he is filler.
I agree a veteran presences is important but Richards is not it. A solid second or third line guy that has great work ethic and knows what it means to sacrifice for the team. Character is more important now than a average, ageing skilled centre that might help your team win 5 or 6 more games.
