I think Colorado is going to win and subsequently select Seth Jones 1st overall.

I think it has to be done backroom. The team that wins the draw must be the firsr team drawn, that being shown on TV is simply for the drama, non?

I.e. The team with the most likely chance to win has the most balls (or however it is done) therefore would be drawn first more likely than not, and then there would be no drama..., as opposed to a countdown style...

(All this being said, I've never watched, nor will I tonight...)

The funny part is, they could show the entire lottery and nobody would know who won because it all depends on what combination is assigned to which team.

I imagine the draw itself doesn't make for riveting television, but then again neither does Bill Daly pulling cards out of an envelope.

EDIT: The draw itself is also done in New York.

I have this weird feeling that Dallas will. Not sure if it's because Jones is from Plano, or they just hired Jim Nill or what but that's my 2.1% gut instinct here.

my guess is the Flames win the lottery, trade the pick to Colorado so they can take Jones and the Flames get their center

Zero chance Florida passes on MacKinnon, so I wouldn't do that.

I have seen the nba one explained but it's basically just lotto balls and each team watching is holding a sheet frantically checking their numbers?

which aren't all in order

i.e Florida doesn't have 001 to 250

is that right?

Calgary would lose out on MacKinnon in that scenario. That would not be a smart move on their part going from 1 to 3 IMO.

Correct. It's not sequential. So Florida could have

14+12+2+3 and 3+10+4+1 etc. etc. and 248 more of those.

You can try and tell Colorado you won't trade any lower then 2nd overall since you don't want to trade below second overall.

Colorado then had to swap picks with Florida first, then can try to swap picks with Calgary.

Not a guarantee but that would be my strategy if I was Feaster.

ya I would think they need to end up at 2 for it

but I just in general think Colorado makes a huge push for 1 to get Jones, and they need D

I could see them giving up overvalue for the slot because of the player and his position

Florida swapping picks with Colorado is the same as them passing on MacKinnon, though.
