I thought MacDonald was much better than some of you make him out to be. He was steady back there and made some nice saves to keep it close when we needed him to.

Bouwmeester with the same amount of points as the all mighty Justin Schultz!
I thought McDonald looked a lot more competent than Irving, more composed.
Win tomorrow Flames!!

I think Gio contributing defensively would be better.

What's with this guy on overtime who thinks only canadian players and goalies want to actually win the cup?
Was that Don Cherry's grandson or something?

Loved the All-Czech line. Obviously we know Cervenka and Hudler have chemistry, but Horak didn't look out of place at all. Would like to see that line stick together next game.
Also, to play a bit of armchair GM here, take Babchuk out, call up Breen for the #6 spot and I'm a happy camper.

The Flames are already sitting two healthy D, probably won't see anyone else up until one of Babchuk or Butler is moved.

This team might make the playoffs if:
1. Kipper comes back and plays like last year
2. Horak proves to be a 2b/3a center and when Backlund comes back tangs goes back to wing.
3. Current lineup keeps flames close until kipper comes back.

We make the playoffs because we play in the crappiest division in the league and get easy points against the Oilers, Avs and Wild.

I would like to see this too. Breen should fit right in on the third pairing, good at clearing the net, stop the cycle in the corner and he could add some much needed toughness.
Babchuck is basically only useful for shooting from the point during the powerplay. Wideman and Brodie can do this just fine so theres no need for babchuck.

I know. Wishful thinking on part. My ideal third D pairing is Smith and Breen.
Haven't been impressed at all with Babchuk so far.

So, who on here was calling quits on the season at 3-1?
I bet a good number.
Lol, anyways,
Yeaaah baby! Love the comeback wins. Stajan is becoming somewhat of a force out there-really embracing his role on this team. Horak should have been here since DAY ONE. He's an NHLer folks. He's bigger, stronger and doesn't get outmuscled now, which was probably his one glaring weakness last year.
The Czech line must stay intact. They're probably loving it, too.
So
Taylor or J-Mac tomorrow?
Btw, I've quite liked Mac since he came in against the Blues. He looks good. Sure, he's given up some goals, (when the team in front hasn't played well) but he doesn't give up the shots that should be routine for most goalies in this league, unlike the fellow that was in before him. I think despite the great performance, we shouldn't push our luck on the back to back, and finally give a chance to see what this kid Taylor can do.

What a bizarro-world Flames team this season.
MacDonald definitely an NHL goalie at least - just way, way more confident than Irving ever was in net. I didn't get that "what the hell is he doing" feeling about our goalie more than once or twice for just about the first time.
I think we make the playoffs. And I don't think we need to trade Kipper or Iggy and suck for 3 more years to do it.

Babchuk is going to need a few games to get into game shape as well. Not sure why anybody expected him to charge right in after two games played. Heck, everyone else seems to be just getting up to speed now after thirteen games.
Regardless, good character building win tonight. Really happy Stajan and Horak got goals tonight. Both of them deserved it. MacDonald needs a couple more starts to get a little more steady but it is quite clear he isn't fighting the puck as much as Irving was.
I will be honest though. Any ideas I had been entertaining about hoping Kipper would be traded have quietly gone by the wayside. What's that old saying? You don't know what you got 'til it's gone? Yeah, I want kipper back and someone, somewhere should be paying boatloads of money to have him cloned so we never have to know what it's like ever again what life is like w/o Kipper.
