Neither of those teams would make those deals.
Realistically, I think if we're trading them (I'm not suggesting it), we're looking at a return like a 1st + Joe Morrow from Pittsburgh for Iginla, Mark McNeill + 2nd from Chicago for Kipper.
Decent prospects, but nothing blue chip and nothing guaranteed.

IGGY DOESN'T WANT TO LEAVE
besides, who is gonna win the cup? its a 30 team league and with parity its easy to say go win a cup, hard to find that team. At the deadline would Iggy have picked LA to go win a cup with last year

Now with Begin signed I'm sure TSN would just love to change their ranking.

Philly would do the deal in a heart beat. You can surely suspect any Iginla deal would be a trade and sign deal where they would be getting another 2 years of Iginla.
Toronto also does the deal simply because it makes them a playoff team and it's by no means over payment for a guy that has another 5 years in the tank.
Iggy doesn't want to leave. He wants to do what is good for the team. He's said that time and time again. If they want to trade he's not going to stop it.

3. The Flames were 2-7 in OT and 3-9 in SO
4. The Flames were the only team with less than 30 losses to miss the playoffs
My simple conclusions:
- the Flames are pretty good at hockey but quite terrible at modified hockey (4 on 4)
- the coin flip let them down.

Good post, and I would also add that I think the Flames will be much better in shootouts this year. Management was raving about the shootout skills of Baertschi and Hudler. A few more of those points would have made the difference last year, hopefully we see a boost this season.

While I don't have exceptionally high hopes for the Flames this year, to argue that they are a bottom 5 team in the league is ridiculous to me. We are a mediocre team as we have been for the past few seasons...but we are not a terrible one.
We are not a sexy pick because we do the unthinkable and dont blow up the team...Journalists have a hate on us for this, and continue to put the flames under the bus whenever they get they chance....I'm not saying we will make the playoffs...but we have a better chance of doing so than finishing 14th...

Definitely valid points brought up by you and SeoulofFire. I do not think the Flames have the offensive firepower to play the way that Hartley wants them to play, nor the 200 foot commitment that is needed to succeed, but hopefully you guys are correct.

I can't wait for the flames to sign Iginla so I don't have to read the same LETS TRADE IGGY HES GETTING OLD posts another 10 000 times. Seriously, don't you guys every get tired of rehashing this subject over and over?
It's the same with the bouwmeester hater's, every thread, every post, they say the same thing. Every point has been said a hundred times over, talk about something else.

I think there is a split between two sides when it comes to Iginla so its always up for discussion with posters.
Team A: Iginla is the captain, has done it all and should stay here for the remainder of his career. These people love Iginla and would cheer for him even if he puts up 10 goals a season because they simply love Iggy.
Team B: Iginla is the captain, he has done it all, but he is on the wrong-side of thirty and we aren't a contending team anymore. Maybe we can give Iggy the chance to go somewhere else and try to win a cup, while in the process we can get a couple of pieces to start building our team forward (like a re-tool).
Team C: My friends told me that Iginla is old and useless so lets trade him away and start a rebuild. These are the casual fans who watch about five games every season and think they know it all. They don't deserve to be one of the two main teams.
That's just my opinion, though.

Thank you - I have been meaning to post something similar...
People say: Iginla should go win a cup.
Okay, exactly which team is that with? The Penguins are the cup favourites at about 7-1... hardly a sure thing.
You can probably narrow it down to 3 or 4 teams in each conference, from which you are LIKELY (but by no means certain) to get a winner. Out of that, you have to pick ONE with which you can make a deal that makes sense.
Chastising Iginla for wanting to remain a Flame is deplorable.

Thank all the Hockey Gods that Iginla is more loyal to the Flames than a large number of the posters here are to him.

As sad as it would be to see Iginla leave, if we were to move into a retooling phase after this season it would only make sense to move him. Espically if the return is a guy like Brayden Schenn. Plus if he were to leave, I could easily see him returning to end his career.

LOL @ Tsn and sportsnet having the flames finishing behind the oilers. Yea, I'm sure the oilers, with their one nhl caliber defenceman, midgets playing forward and ahl level goalie are going to make up 25 points in the standings and pass the flames.

Oilers fan and I agree.
The top line is good offensively, but questionable on the defensive end. The defense is abysmal, the bottom 6 is easily the worst in the league, the 2nd line is big wild card and Dubnyk/Coaching still have a lot to prove. I hope for two more top 5 picks to fill in some holes and then try to make the playoffs.
