It's Apples fault if they continue to use an inferior Map with their contact list, not Googles.

I assume what he meant was that google maps can't call up an address from your contact list (something every map app I've used since Google Maps went away can do).

How is having addresses attached to your contacts mind boggling? It isn't presented as a text document... I have the mailing address of almost everybody I know in there.

How can you iphone users stand all those icons every where? whenver i use my wife's iphone it's just so messy. That said would apple ever let you customize your screens?
|
iPhones have the dock which keeps 4 icons visible on every page. Folders make things easier, but when you get too many icons it's just easier to open with the search icon.
Edit: I see your wife doesn't use folders. That will be a big help.

I'm one of the weirdos that does it. I know it doesn't make sense, but for some reason I like having it on. If there's a traffic issue it may update my route for me, and I like knowing that my data is being used to improve routing information.

For those kinds of things I don't use directions. However, If we actully going to drive that far inbewtteen place, I'd have plenty of time to add contacts while stopped at red lights along the way.

I rarely would use it for most personal driving. Obviously I don't need directions to most places that I go often. For business though, I often find myself picking up stuff at multiple places, dropping something off somewhere else, stopping in at our jobsite for a bit (don't need directions for that). I'm going to places that I don't know exactly where they are, and from places that I'm not normally in. The GPS can tell me the best way to get between these places. While I'm driving, I don't really need it while driving on the main roads, but once I get to the local streets, my eyes are just bad enough to not be able to read street signs very well. The GPS can take me right to where I need without having to worry about looking at street signs.
For many of my friends, I have no idea what their street number or street name is. I just know how to drive there. Storing their address means that I don't have to look it up when I want to send Christmas cards, or something like that.

Yes, easiest way is to drag an icon onto another icon. Bam- a folder with 2 icons in it. iOS will suggest a name for the folder; which you can change. Then just drag the other ones into it. If you have a lot to do and aren't used to the iOS interface, you can also do it within iTunes. (Which means you can use a mouse.)
Some apps cannot go into folders; like I mentioned above.

One thing IOs needs is one touch dialing on the main page for your main contacts. So handy!

My newsstand is still inside a folder, but I did that before upgrading to iOS6, I don't know if it's still possible or not.

ya it's a nice feature to have, but i can count on one hand the number of times i've used it. personally i've never had a problem looking up an address on Google maps and memorizing the route i need to take

Why would you add a place you are just going to visit once to your contacts? I am pretty sure that isn't how people are using their contact's address in maps.

Do you mean adding certain phone numbers to your favourites so you can 1 touch call from the phone app?

Exactly! because You Need said that only 5% of the time does he use his map apps this way.

I think he's talking about a one touch dialing widget. Basically you can have a few of your contacts on your main page so you can just dial straight from there.

Contacts widgets are great, widgets in general are great. Contact widgets aren't a back-door maybe-it-works thing like they appear to be in iOS.
Anyways, Google Maps have finally arrived, the thing that iPhone owners have wanted since it was replaced months ago.
You're welcome.
Sincerely,
Google.

I honestly haven't tried to. I'm one of the few that actually uses Newsstand.

It'll work fine on an iPhone 5.

Just came to post that I tested it on my bosses phone and it worked fine.
Still requires 2 clicks though, but then at least you dont need to scroll through a list.

Yes. I like the Google woman's voice better than Siri.

Glad that whole mess has been fixed. Pretty funny how some of the fan boys still managed to justify its absence in this thread but oh well. It's a superior app and it's great to have it back.

It's pretty interesting - Google got back the analytics and advertising targeting data they want from users, users got streetview, better POI data, and greater accuracy, and Apple got off the hook for licensing costs associated with the data.
win/win/win
