My listing in Riverbend has seen a ton of showing activity which I would assume Quarry Park is playing a role in.
I also sold a place last week to someone in Douglas Glen who also has a strong vision for the entire area both short and long term.

Has Riverbend had the expected improvement like a few people thought? Or Douglessglen? We're 12-18 months from first occupancy and 3+ years until the move is complete. Some nice areas west of 18th street. Housing prices seem pretty good given it's a 20 minute drive to DT close to some major arterial roads and the river paths and Carburn park.

Anyone live in the area find traffic worse? Actually that's a dumb question since nothing has changed since the thread started. Any more feedback from employees that will be quitting or moving (unfortunate NW'rs).

The 24th street heading north is a bit of a mess. Never had been along that road and found the connection to Ogden Road or Shepard Road awful.

Just figured the thread was good for a bump.
I currently work for Stantec in Quarry park and...

The whole area is a clusterfata between 4 and 6 pm every weekday evening...

When Schneider moves in this summer and the Imperial migration starts it will only get worse...

The city had better be planning some upgrades and an extra interchange to Glenmore soon...

Add the new City recreation facility to be built next door to my office and within 5 years it will be major gridlock imo...

I may actually start taking my bike to work...

Is there any way to force the Quarry park folks to shoulder some of this cost?

Not until the city changes its tax structure.

Well, sounds like there is no need to improve any infrastructure in that area until then.

Well, except that Quarry Park actually has a much better chance to pay for itself than most other areas of the city.

And the City wants these types of development where commercial centres are closer to residential ones.

Thought I’d bump this thread.

Imperial Oil has started the first phase of its move to Quarry Park. As of this morning there are people in the space up and operating.

If you haven’t been down to Quarry Park recently to see the projects development I would recommend it. The first building is spectacular, and with all the glass the building looks extremely bright. Big props to Remington to meet the delivery date on time, there was a lot of doubt surrounding Imperial’s occupancy but Remington met the timeline.

CALGARY - It’s a new era for Imperial Oil as the energy giant has begun moving its first employees from the company’s downtown headquarters into new office space in the suburban Quarry Park southeast neighbourhood.

That article seems like a total puff piece for IOL.

I can't imagine everyone there is totally happy about moving to QP.

I've been working on this project for the last two years and IOL (sorry Imperial as they are now known) worked very hard on getting employee buy-in. Much more than I have seen with other oil/gas companies. As for the space itself, it will be a much better work environment than what they are in now.

Remington actually was a bit behind schedule so they just squeezed all us other contractors to get down. The next move in date for Building D is scheduled for the beginning of January with each other building following one per quarter.

...and yes, the traffic is going to suck once 3200 more people work there.

In any decision or change one will never have everyone happy about it.

Personally, I love working in Quarry Park. It is closer to home for me and there are decent amenities in the area. If I have to go north on Deerfoot I can bypass the McIver bridge clusterfata by going through Riverbend.

This might be a little early to ask seeing as they have only moved a few people to Quarry Park but I wonder what the retention rate for employees will be as they move to the new building?

Personally, I wouldn't be too happy having my office moved out of the downtown core and I would probably jump ship to stay downtown for convenience. I don't live down south though and if I did it would probably be a much different story. I've driven through that area once about a year ago (before a lot of offices opened) during the afternoon rush and it was brutal and chaotic and I can only imagine how much worse it will get when thousands of employees with thousands of vehicles start working out of that area.

Aren't you jealous of their "very great technology" though? Looks like everyone gets to stand up at their desks all day in that picture too.

I can't remember what the ratio was when the development team shared it with us but it was high. Many employees are buying up all the new places in the area.

Office campuses might be a trend going forward. I can tell you that Husky explored this very idea, and even further out. They opted to stay where they are... but it was darn close to happening.

As do I. I live in the SE though. My morning commute went from 60 min to 10 and considering I am at the office by 6 AM and out by 3:30 I never have to deal with traffic.

They discussed quite a few options from moving to another building downtown, to the outlining campuses. I saw a few different planning scenarios come across my desk. Husky is a lot more frugal than Imperial so the cynic in me thinks they did it to get more concessions for their current space.
