Not sure if mocking, but Apple Maps replaced the default Maps app. It is still called Maps.
Apple had maintained the app before, and just used Google Maps database etc.
This time around, Google will release their own Maps app on the App store, much like they released YouTube.

so all this bitching is really for nothing. you can just get the app for that right?
but if you didn't upgrade to ios 5 your googlemaps would still be there right? my wife has an iphone 4 and needs to head to a new doctor tomorrow.

Anyone not running iOS 6 will still have the old maps app, which is using Google Maps database.
The new "Google Maps" app isn't out yet, and Apple Maps doesn't really compete with the mature database of Gmaps.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!
What is this about your wife being a blasphemer to your high holy religion?!?! Why have you not gotten rid of it already?
And when I ask "it" - I mean your wife, not the iPhone.

Oh she's seen the light. She will be switching to the s3 but not for another 6 months until her contract is done. I didn't even have to convince her. My 2 sister in laws have switched to android, course one of them bought a HTC... hahaha. seriously?

I had a friend over today who needed to go the children's hospital but needed directions. He is from out of town and was looking up the directions on the new maps app in ios6. According to the maps app the children's hospitals has not move from the old location on 17th ave. It has not been there for years. How out dated is the data that apple is using ?

That's the thing with Apple's "solution", the TomTom data is stupidly, hilariously out of date (6+ years in a lot of cases). Google has a team of over 7000+ people that massage road data onto the maps, tag businesses and locations and collect new location and street view data on a daily basis. Couple with that the TomTom maps are missing 7 years worth of user location tagging and you have the new AppleMaps. How Google builds it's maps:
http://www.theatlantic.com/technolog...ything/261913/
Reports are that AppleMaps is practically unusable outside the states, especially Japan. Given that the user base on Google maps is much larger and Google's expertise in sorting, collecting and organizing information, it's questionable if AppleMaps will ever catch up to the lead Google built already. AppleMaps, like Google is a cloud based solution that'll rely on sheer number of users to correct mistakes. Most people won't even bother and will probably just switch back to user Google when the map app comes out.
Example of lack of user tagging allowing walking directions with GPS:

I know this is a phone thread, but I think this is also relevant to this discussion. Essentially to counter the whole user experience argument used by Android users.

Apple ranks highest, achieving a score of 848, and performs well in four factors: performance; ease of operation; styling and design; and features. Amazon (841) closely follows Apple in the rankings and performs particularly well in the price factor.

Just curious, have you guys owned an iPad? I have used a Samsung tablet but not the nexus. I will see if I get a chance.

Ipad owner here, it's collecting dust right now. Rather carry the Nexus 7 around. Though I miss some of my nicer tablet apps like Bloomberg.

I've owned an iPad since about... a couple months after it came out. Much prefer the Nexus 7.
We'll see what the rumoured iPad mini can do, because I like the smaller form factor of the Nexus 7.

Had an idea!

The hilarious thing here is that Nokia Maps works really well and has no where near the complaints that Apple Maps does.
Which makes it even more of an epic failure for Apple. Nokia isn't even their true rival, and they blew Apple away on that feature.

I could see myself getting an iPad mini possibly, I love the Nexus 7 and the interface I think is a lot more sophisticated, but it's the form factor that is the major reason that I really like it.

Why not sell the iPad, it clearly holds pretty good value still? Are we talking the original iPad or the "new" iPad?

Old old iPad, glass has also got a crack in it. I'll probably send it off for repairs so I can give it to my mom and dad as a "training" tablet. They still have trouble figuring out how to connect to an open Wifi with a terms and conditions page

^Heh, no wonder it's collecting dust then. The thing is what, almost three years old compared to something that was just released?
Joking aside, I'm somewhat curious about the comfort/usage of a smaller tablet myself.
