I have never been Jamaica, so I cant speak for its safety level in comparison to Mexico, but id be interested in seeing some statistics to compare Caribbean countries.

As for the shooting, I was walking on a balcony overlooking the town when I heard squealing tires, so I looked back and saw a police car chasing another car that tried and failed to make a 90 degree turn at about 100 kph. The car smashed into a tree and a building and came to rest. There was no movement from inside the car. The police officer got out of his car, walked up to the window, "pop" "pop," and walked away.

That's a pretty wild story.

Lima, Peru was the sketchiest place I have been to.
East St. Louis, Illinois was dodgy too.

Let me tell you about scary
How about
In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days
Chillin out, maxin, relaxing all cool,
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys who were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one lil fight and my mom got scared
And said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air"

Is there such a thing as a 'correct turn' off the the Ambassador Bridge that doesn't end up in a ghetto?

I thought the Mayan Riv was in Quintana Roo? Pretty sure that's what my passport stamps say and we went south from Cancun not north.

Being from Venezuela and moved here almost 8 years ago, that is a place I'm not thinking to return anytime soon. The stuff I hear from family and friends is not pleasant.
Caracas is probably the worst place in Venezuela right now, maybe Maracaibo might be the second worst since it's a few hours away from the Colombian border.
