That always seemed like the most ridiculous excuse. How are they even related?

It's kind of funny watching an RSN game at my place. Kerr calls the goal while the video play is still going on, a half second later the video follows showing the goal, and then 5 seconds later my Budweiser light goes off. Technology is great.

Agreed. The Budweiser lights were bang on for a while but as of late they have been at least 5 seconds behind and sometimes longer.

It's sportsnet so that's no surprise.
The entire Vanier Cup radio broadcast was muffled because they were taking it off tv.
They couldn't even send 2 actual radio guys.

They have to take the signal from the cameras, do a bunch of video processing, and then spit the signal out to the viewers. That introduces a lag for the feeds using that system (the main cameras).
Now how hard is it to calculate that lag, and introduce it into all feeds and the audio? I don't know, but I'm certain it isn't impossible.

Maybe it's a daylight savings timezone issue?
Haha. Very, very disappointed they haven't fixed this by now. It's been two years already?

One golden day I will be in a room with a SN producer/employee, and they will not escape my wrath.
I once saw Kerr in a Starbucks. I was an inch away from asking him to just remember to describe the play a second late manually. But I wimped out.

Some newspaper writer should do a column on this but I guess they don't want to rock the boat. It's getting infuriating.

Does the Oiler Snet broadcasts have a lag? Do they have glass ads? If so, then its not that anymore as the technical broadcast crews are sometimes the same IIRC.
The other theory kicked around somewhere last year, as Kerr sometimes has his head buried in notes or one of his stories is once again running long, and, had no pro experience in play by play prior to this, is that the video delay is to help him out if he is behind in calling the game. Thus, he doesn't look behind when he doesn't catch the goal right away or see a key split second play right away.
To that end, I've heard a couple goals, and, times the puck has hit the post (could hear it), this year, where Kerr makes the call just after you see it on TV (and this looks/sounds normal)...but with the video delay he's actually really behind.

^^ I doubt that. All I can say is that I've never experienced a lag with an SN broadcast on NHL Gamecenter, it's always perfectly in sync.

did anyone else notice that sportsnet west actually had the sound synced to the video last game?? (flames vs coyotes)
i wonder if it was a fluke or if they have addressed the lagging video issue??

Please be true. Someone mentioned that NHL Game Center is synced. But it certainly isn't on mine.

After the game I noticed that I didn't notice that the audio was out of sync, so it must have been okay. That was on Bell, tonight I'm watching the game on GameCentre Live on a computer and it's out of sync again. Could be just the computer feed though. Yeah, it is the computer feed because the interviews are all out of sync.

So all it took was for them to get a TV contract to fix the issue. That was easy.

Not watching tonight, but it had occurred to me that the Coyotes game audio was synced fine while I was watching it.

It's seemed ok all night, until the last goal, where he called it a split second ahead again.
Easiest is (or used to be) listening to the smacking of the stick or the boards compared to the video, and it was off. Tonight, it seems calibrated.
Could just the commentary sound track be advanced?

I guess it could be. I know we are only talking split seconds here, but I watch a lot of hockey with a lot of different broadcasters and eventually you get a feel for the timing of the play by play. Kerr just seems unnaturally quick to the punch on the goal calls.
