How do you manage to equate this into an attack on Alberta? What does Belinda switching parties have to do with not caring about Alberta?
What about her constituants in Ontario? should they whine that no one cares about Ontario?
If conservative supporters ever want expand their market beyond the West, stop antagonising the rest of Canada over things that have nothing at all to do with provincial differences. [/b][/quote]
OM Goodness...
You have done this to me and now you are doing it to him. You read half and guess the rest. That is the only way I can see you equating his comments to mean Stonach crossing the floor = attack on Alberta.
Maybe he is bitter and should leave Canada too?

It's also looking that Harper may have personally led to her decision to defect. Great job by the party's leader. Even Martin was able to get Carolyn Parish to vote with the government after booting her from the party.
Quote:
A few weeks ago, Stronach was summoned by Harper to his Rockcliffe mansion over comments she had made to The Globe warning against defeating the budget, which would kill money for infrastructure to her Ontario riding of Newmarket-Aurora.
A Tory insider told the newspaper that Stronach was reportedly told she was being frozen out of appearances in election ads.
A report in the Toronto Star suggests the meeting between the two ended in a shouting match, with Harper telling her she would never be the leader of the party.

I think this is effectively the end of Harper's leadership--there's no way he's going to be able to win an election now, and even forcing the election might not happen. The party is maxed out in the west, and has probably just lost their best tool for gaining ground in Ontario. He made a tremendous error in chosing to spurn Stronach, at a time when the Conservatives' margin for error was razor thin.

One of the greatest misconceptions of the left is that corporations don't pay enough tax.
In truth they pay virtually no tax.
A company either passes the tax on to its customers or goes out of business.
I'm not suggesting there be no corporate tax, but you can raise it all you want, all you're doing is raising the taxes we pay as individuals. And corporations don;t give a rats ass what your income bracket is. If they have to add $2 a month to you bank fees to cover the tax they will, whether it's your last $2 or you've got thousands more.
|
But I only use a very small subset of the entire corporate world. I'd rather they pass the costs down to me for the corporations I do use then subsidize all of them.

Sign me up for this new RougeFotze party of yours, that's exactly the platform I'd vote for. Looks like there are a few others here too that would. Too bad the major political parties have ignored us.
But who to choose a leader from Fotze or Rouge? And is there a billionaire heiress girlfriend involved?
In exchange for this support, I demand a cabinet position in any future government. I hereby claim the position of Chicks, Cars, and 3rd World Wars.

Count me in for the new RF Party as well. Id like to be Minister of Trade please....my first action will be to Trade Quebec for Columbia. Id take the profits from the Cocaine cartel and pay off the national debt in a year. Then Id turn around and swap Columbia to the States for Hawaii.

God, that statement is so applicable to so many of the things that have gotten people pulling their hair out over the last couple of months.
The Cons delaing with the Bloq, the Libs dealing with the NDP, budgets being altered, cabinet positions being promised, and even individuals crossing party lines... it's all par or the course in politics.
It was going on long before this Liberal gov't, and it will go on long after. The stakes may be higher right now, but the game is the same.
If the Conservatives form the next gov't, particularly if it's a minority, there's no doubt in my mind that they'll play the same moves the Liberals have played to try to secure their own gov't, and this board wil collapse under a mountain of hypocracy or a mountain of crow being eaten.

I still don't understand why Calgarians kick themselves in the nuts every election when we give the Reform Party all our votes. Even Edmonton people have better sense. If we want a say in Ottawa it won't be by hoping that the Conservatives win the election(because that would never happen with Harper as a leader), it will only be when we vote a Liberal MP in.
If that happened, he/she would be a guaranteed a cabinent position(unless if it is Dave Bronconnier).

So how is that any different then the countless other things that people have been complaining about in this thread?
The Convervatives play politics just as much as the Liberals.. the Libs just do it better.

I'm sorry that I've hurt your feelings HOZ by questioning comments made on a post. I thought that's what posts were for. You are free to critique my comments as well.
What half did I not read? Are you referring to the rest of his post that I didn't quote? That's becuase I don't have an issue with the rest of his post. I quote the section that troubles me, and asked him a question about it. Where's the problem.
I equat his comment of saying "Stronach crossing the floor = attack on Alberta" because this is a post about Stronach crossing the floor and he was talking about Alberta getting snuffed by the rest of the country. What else does this equate to?
Anyway. I'm sure Captain can respond himself if he wants, without you coming to his defense because you have a gruge with me over something I said on a different post.

I'm talking about the nomination...not the actual election.
Since the PCs and Alliance "Merged" (ie the PCs were taken over) each riding had to have a nomination...even for incumbant MPs.
Many of the ridings across Canada featured a former PC vs a former Alliance, as was the case in Calgary West.
There was a huge move afoot to un-seat Anders. Allison Redford was a very strong candidate, with great political experience and a working relationship with the ridings MLAs and councillors.
In then end, the better known and 2-term incumbant Anders won by fewer than 250 I believe. So 130 "Swing" voters or an out-right 300 better Redford turnout would have made me a lot prouder to be a Calgary West member.
Boo Anders! (and boo Harper!) ((and boo Zidlicky!!))

Is this Harper standing up for his beliefs? It couldn't be pandering could it? He wouldn't claim in an election that he supported the budget would he? Nah, never happen.
