National Geographic channel had two programs, one featuring George W Bush, and the other featuring Rudy Guilianni, as they talked about their experiences the day off, and in the days following 9/11. Both good programs that are worth a watch.

CJAY 92....I never watch tv in the morning before going to work because I am always cutting it close but I do listen to the radio and back in those days I would listen to CJAY 92 and it was on there that they initially were speaking of an "accident" in NY as a plane crashed into the first tower and I thought wow that's bizarre as I was getting ready to go that's when Gerry Forbes reported that the U.S. was under attack I turned on the tv and was shocked like the rest of you. So scared as my wife (we were engaged at the time) was working in SanFrancisco for the United States Government and I was not sure what was happening. It is one of those days we will tell our kids about and all of our grandkids will eventually read about in history books.

I heard a few seconds about the incident on CJAY when I woke up at 7:00 AM (didn't hear anything about NYC, just something about airplanes involving the Pentagon and maybe the White House). Somehow I got the impression that it was a joke or something not really serious. I remember thinking before I went downstairs that "nobody actually flies air planes into buildings--that only happens in the movies!". My dad was up already and had the TV on to CNN. I think this was just after the first tower fell ...
Just watched United 93 on TV. I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest the last 5 minutes of the film are the most intense of any film I've ever seen. Not sure if the youtube clip does it justice, but either way:

is this common knowledge? This is the first time I ever heard of this

Korean Air Lines flight 085 lurched menacingly toward Canada. Its pilots had mistakenly broadcast codes to indicate a hijacking that led NORAD to scramble jets.
...
KAL-085 turned out to be a false alarm. It landed peacefully in Whitehorse with no hijackers or terrorists aboard. A year later, prime minister Jean Chrétien told CBC he had been prepared to have NORAD shoot it down. “I said, ‘Yes, if you think they are terrorists, you call me again but be ready to shoot them down.’ So I authorized it in principle,” he said.

I've never seen that movie before today, so thank you for posting it. Got to agree with you that has to be the most intense 5 minutes of any movie I've ever seen.
Listening to the ceremonies on the truck radio right now in Canmore, about 40 minutes from the start of the Rocky Mountain Half Marathon. Beautiful sunny morning but chill.

I agree. Well worth the viewing, as is 102 minutes that shook America. There another on, I think, TLC, where a lady photographer tracks down and interviews the people she shot that day. The title is something like Portraits of 9/11. Well worth your time.

I watched a National Geographic doc "Inside 9-11" the other day that had those new phone calls incorporated into the breakdown of events over those first crutial hours. Great watch, really puts the timeline into perspective and shows a bunch of great first hand accounts of things from survivors.
Anyone with any doubt about the legitimacy of 9/11 should watch that
10 years ago, I was 2 weeks into my first year of fire science classes on my way to doing my dream job. It was surreal to be in the process of training to become a firefighter, then witnessing the bravery and sacrifice of those that came before me.
Today, I'm an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter. I start my 16 hour shift at 10am, and I'm just hoping today gives me no reason to have to take my truck out of the parking bay.
CNN showed a film or something narrated by Tom Hanks about the mass evacuation of Manhattan by boat. Apparently it was the largest boat evacuation in history, some 500 thousand people. The coast guard put out a call for any boat available to come help, and they did. Hundreds of boats. Incredible.

Agreed
There was also a very good documentary on the 9-11 commission where you heard a lot of phone calls in transcript format that showed that there was not only a lot of chaos and indecision, but incompetence and lack of decision making due to never having faced something like that.
The worst to me was when the military was talking to the FAA and the question was posed by the Military "Shouldn't we be scrambling fighters" and there was a long pause on the FAA side followed by a "I just don't know"

Anyone watch the documentary "10 Years After 9/11" on CBS (I believe was the channel).
Was 2 hours long, no commercials, and was excellent. Originally the guy was filming the fire fighters for a fire fighter documentary but then obviously 9/11 happened. Was crazy to watch because the guy filming caught everything and was at ground zero when the buildings collapsed.
It'll be on again in an hour I believe, I highly recommend everyone watch it.
Maybe a little late, but on 60 Minutes there is a segment on a Lebanese-American FBI interrogator who knows all sorts of inside dope. It's quite the eye-opener. He talks about getting info out of these guys with regular old techniques, and then the CIA takes over and start the "extra measures" and how that failed.
He said something like "these detainees are used to Middle East prisons, they are trained to deal with torture, and stripping them and depriving them of sleep is nothing to these guys, so they clammed up".
