^^ What the UK needs is another M. Thatcher but sadly what it will get is yet another wuss who will cave in to the demands of the hordes (everyone from the unions to rioters to welfare recipients to welfare immigrants to leeches. In other words, labour voters.)
Yeah, because there was no rioting during the Thatcher years.

Re-read the part about not caving in to the ridiculous demands of the "take take take" folk.
With the greatest of respect, I don't think you know what you are talking about. This isn't about a particular group with an axe to grind or a particular set of demands. The closest parallels I can guess at right now, is we have seen an repeat of the economic collapse of the early 80s and now this is being followed by a similar sociological collapse. But at this early stage, this is just my best guess.
Whole swathes of this country never recovered from the devastation Thatcher wrought. Britain needs another dose of Thatcher about as much as Hiroshima needs another atomic bomb.
Well last night was completely different. No signs of trouble on my street, police were visible but barely heard any sirens, it was like a normal night in London (except that you couldn't buy anything because all the shops had closed early). Sounds like other English cities had lots of problems though. Hopefully all the extra police in London last night don't move into those other cities today, causing London to relapse.
Yes .....we did laugh at the irony of an immigrant complaining about immigrants.....
When people in the UK make disparaging comments about "immigrants", they're really complaining about "brown people". I doubt ex-pat Canadians or Australians living in London are the target of their scorn. That's why an Englishman living in Canada can blast immigrants in the UK without noticing the irony.

Usually also includes complaints about Eastern Europeans. Poles, Romanians, etc.. have also moved to Britain in large numbers. Xenophobic people love to single out he immigrants who commit crimes, but ignore the benefit of hard working immigrants who drive their taxis, build their houses, do their lawn work, wash their dishes, cook their food, etc... for far less money than any Brit would.

The issue I have with these riots/protests and most other for that matter, is the looting and destruction of private property. If the riots/protests are targeted towards the government, government agencies or the like, keep your focus and you'll gain some creds and respect for your cause.
I understand that most of the looting and destruction is performed by gangs and the like, but the protest organizers need to voice themselves in order separate the two.

What cause? that coke dealing gangsters carrying guns shouldn't be shot? screw that, I came from a somewhat shady family in the east end, the rule was always if you have a shooter the coppers aren't going to bother to nick you, nor should they have to.
