We laugh at the fact that someone is wearing a Regehr jersey and go down to check it out. What do you know, it's actually Regehr, filming something for the raise a reader program. So after he's done, we ask him if we can take a few photos with him, he says sure, and then I asked him if he could pick up my friend by the scruff of the neck. He does so with ease and I take some pictures of him lifting my friend up by the collar, laughing and my friend acting scared. Oh, and my buddy was over 200lbs at the time, and there's Regehr lifting him up like it's no big deal.

So there I was having sex with this girl, I mean its real shameful stuff, this chick is just dirty, and I don't want to know her name. I mean I feel ashamed for just participating, and she told me I have to hurry up because the lines getting kind of long and the camcorder battery is dying. . .
Oh wait this isn't the Fotze mother thread?

Not an NHLer, but I still regret my alchohol enduced conversation about how I respected Calgary Roughneck Andrew McBride because he plays a physical profesional sport for less money than I make sitting at a desk, typing at a computer. Meant as a compliment... but by the look on his face, taken as an insult.

On GoStampsGo radio we had Rob Lazeo as a guest, and I gave him the babbling idiot question about the evolution of linemen to thinner more athletic looking guys.
I swear that the look that he gave me practically made me piss my pants.

My brother's ( The Commodore Afro) encounter with a player is epic. Would trump all these stories. It's almost unbelievable. But I will leave it up to him to put it on here.

My wife was so excited to see Dion and Elisha shopping at the Strathcona Sobeys, she called me, stalked them and gave me the play by play of what they were buying.
More recently, a group of us road tripping Flames fans spotted Peter Maher and Mike Rogers at Hooters in Atlanta. We shouted at them, and they waved...but then they realized they were spotted in a Hooters and their expressions melted.

When I was about 10 years old, I saw Tim Hunter swimming at Family leisure center. I ran up to him and asked him for his autograph. He then replied to me "kid what am I supposed to sign with and where am I supposed to sign, we are wearing bathing suits in a swimming pool" I then walked away feeling like an idiot.

I was 12, and was getting autographs in the Dome with my best friend after a game.
Joe Nieuwendyk was a rookie that year, was closing in on 50 goals, and I was excited to meet him.
When Joe started signing his autograph, with all the honesty of a 12 year old I said, "I really wanted to get your name on the back of my jersey, but there are so many letters, it would have cost too much."
His response?
"Fcuk off kid."
Hahaha, now I can look at it, and maybe understand it seemed like an insult, but at the time I was totally crushed, because it was true they did charge by the letter to crest, and my cash flow as a 12 year old was sfa.
I told Gary Roberts a short time later that he was my favorite rookie on the Flames. Hahaha.
I met Nieuwendyk four times throughout the years after that initial unfortunate incident, and he was a really nice guy each and every time.

Nope. ######bag move no matter how you cut it. Glad he made up for it later on.

Have met Theo Fleury, Lanny MacDonald, Wendel Clark, Valeri Kamensky, Grant Fuhr and Trent Yawney but none of these were embarassing incidents.
However, during the 2003-4 regular season, my girlfriend at the time (Oil fan) and I (Flames fan) decided to drive to Edmonton to catch a BOA. We stayed at a hotel near the arena, and we were planning to arrive at the arena extra early and I was racing down the stairwell to the hotel lobby (we were racing each other for whatever reason) and I push the door to the lobby, unnecessarily hard, slamming it into a group of three men in suits and ties. I started to apologize.
I did not recognize two of the guys, but the third was Darryl Sutter giving me this look that turned me to stone. The other 2 guys started to laugh as I stammered out the rest of my apology, and I exited the hotel as quickly as I could trying to not sound or look as awkward as I felt.

guy: Who are these guys, anyways?
me: Oh, just two local beer league teams. The games are usually pretty laid back, it's not usually like this
guy: You guys have really nice jerseys

I've had a few encounters, never met a player, though.
Once on the south side of the 10th street bridge, I was jogging along the river at about 7:30 on a freezing cold Saturday morning, and Huselius was jogging the other way.
One encounter was also on the 10th street bridge: my brother and I drove past Mike Keenan. It was right after he was hired. I remember my brother went on a tirade about how Mike Keenan was the worst coach in the universe.
At Staples downtown, I saw Lombardi and a hot woman. I remember the lady who was helping me at the time also saw him and she got quite flustered.
When I played minor hockey, we were playing at the Saddledome, and Nieuwendyk was giving a tour to somebody (or something).
During my Atom or Pee Wee days (maybe both), Lanny MacDonald was the coach of a Springbank team a bunch of times.

During the young guns days I used to frequent the recently opened "New" Spolumbo's on ninth. I would go later to avoid the crowds and there were usually a few random Sports celebs and if the Flames were in town one or two would be there. One Day a player who I knew invited me over to have lunch with he crew which consisted of ( I think) Clark Wilm, Jason Weimer, and my fav Fast Freddie Brathwaite as well as my friend. Freddie Brathwaite is tough to mistake as he only stands 5'7" and is bald...
So I am talking to Freddie who was recently injured and asked if he was feeling good, he said yes, I asked if he was playing that night and he gave me a quizzical look and said no.
Then Freddie came and sat down and joined us. I was talking to his twin like BROTHER the whole time. I apologized enjoyed my Spolumbo's Special and my friend never had me over for another lunch date with the Flames again.

He laughed and went on his way and actually thanked my friend for the nice conversation.
After he left everyone ran up to my friend, all excited... you just helped Jarome Iginla.
The coolest thing, and it speaks to Iggy's character. Iginla came back about 2 hours later and gave him 2 tickets to that nights game... told him that maybe it's time he sees a hockey game.
To this day, my friend says he is the nicest guy he has ever met.
|
So he knows nothing about hockey, Iggy gives him free tickets and he is now a canucks fan? What a dick.
