I'm biased, but I'd call them the Utah Scorpions.

I drove from Denver to Vegas once and the drive through Utah remains to this day some of the most enjoyable time I've spent behind the wheel. Breath taking topography.
I'm going to Utah this fall with a buddy for a week of road cycling with time at Bryce, Zion, and ending with a fondo out of Saint George. I can't wait.
This has nothing to do with the hockey team, but just adding another vote in the Utah is cool pile.

Zion is cool, but, Cedar Breaks National Monument is breathtaking.

That would get attendance to rival some NHL teams currently, while they can build a new one for the olympics and the franchise. This was one of the hockey rinks used in the prior olympics held there.

A possibility, but, not likely. Ryan Smith OWNS the Delta Center. The Maverick Center is owned by West Valley City.

One local wag thinks the SLC team should be named the fighting Sister Wives!

Interesting, Zion is hot, even in the fall, but, Bryce can be cold, starting in September (elevation to 9000 feet)

League has option to take the keys away it appears. Maruelo will get what he put into it but no way is the NHL sharing 100% of the gains.

Hands up old timers, who remember the coyotes playing in the key arena in downtown Phoenix. If you were behind the net on the upper deck, you literally could not see the net. It was underneath you.

I think it might be the other way around mostly. NHL wants to recoup what they have put into this sinking ship but Meruelo stands to profit.
If the NHL tried to take all the profit, I suspect he would be an unwilling seller and this situation would perpetuate.

I wouldn't consider the America West Arena a "NHL-sized arena". Sure, the ice fit but people sitting in the upper north sections couldn't see one end of the ice. I remember sitting in the "Dog House" a few times.

Between Jobing and America West, that’s two facilities that offer all the non-hockey events a place to stage their shows.
So a third facility of 18k seats would basically only be for the hockey team nobody cares about and concerts that can’t book either of the two existing venues.
SA-LT LA-AKE A-CI-TY here we come.

Yeah, I don't get the Flying Elvis' connection. Maybe for Las Vegas, but Salt Lake City? Pretty sure Elvis wasn't a Mormon.

They won't play in the Maverik Center. The hockey capacity is 10,500 at best.
The Delta Center has some seats that are obstructed for hockey but they will make it work until the new arena is built.

I saw a tweet from Gord Miller concerning the no trade clauses on the team and how that will play into this…
There are 2. 2 guys with NTC on the team who have contracts next year. This couldn’t be further from a relevant point.

Funny thing is, that arena is too small for the AHL. Half the size of the one in Tucson.

How could an NTC (or NMC) possible make a difference?
A player once raised his NMC when a team was rumoured to be moving and was shot down by the league before even trying to make a formal argument. It was either Doan or Tkachuk IIRC.

*cracks knuckles*
soooooo he wasn't 'officially'.
Near the end of his life he was apparently expressing more and more of a increasing curiosity with Mormonism. Which has led some to speculate had he not died when he did he would have converted. Depending on who you talk to some think he even did before he died.
I don't recall if he was baptized posthumously though.
